2024 NBL1 Central MVP (Halls Medallist) Casey Samuels has signed with the NBL1 South’s Bendigo Braves for the 2025 season.
Currently playing for the Spirit in the WNBL, Samuels will stay in regional Victoria for the coming season – joining the 2023 National Champions and 2024 runners-up.
Samuels was the key piece to the Central District Lions’ championship run, taking them from last in 2023 to the club’s first championship in a miracle single-season turnaround. She was named the conference’s MVP averaging 22.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists as their captain.

New head coach Deanna Black said Samuels will be nothing but a positive coming into this new-look Braves side.
“Coming off an impressive MVP season in the NBL1 Central competition, winning the Championship and currently playing some of her best basketball in the WNBL, Casey is an exciting talent who plays with physicality and versatility,” she said.
“She has a lot of experience and is a strong leader, demonstrating a passion to support those around her being the best they can be. I’m really looking forward to seeing Casey in Braves colours and value the positive impact that I know she will bring to our program.”
Samuels will join Cassidy McLean on the roster for the 2025 season.
