Northside Wizards claimed an 84-66 home victory over Red City Roar at South Pine Sports Complex on Saturday night.
Just a two-point game (57-55) with 1.17 left in the third quarter, the Wizards went on an 11-2 run to set up the win.
Northside’s Courtney Woods had the hot hand with her game-high 29 points coming from 11 of 15 shooting including 3 of 5 from deep.
The Wizards also looked to Tiana Mangakahia (18 points), Alice O’Driscoll (13 points), and Regan McCarty (11 points) for their offence.
Red City registered five players in double figures as Laura McKillop (14 points), Kassandra Donnelly (13 points), Jaylen Cooper (12 points), Lorna Shepherd (11 points), and Carrie Mill (10 points) shared the offensive duties.
Rockhampton Cyclones 63 def by Ipswich Force 87
Ipswich Force picked up an 87-63 road win over Rockhampton Cyclones at Bravus Arena on Saturday night.
The Force jumped out to a 14-point lead first quarter lead (25-11) and applied the pressure through three main scoring threats from there.
Catherine MacGregor scored a game-high 26 points, but Ipswich teammates Amy Lewis (24 points) and Abby Bishop (24 points) were not far behind. The trio combined for 85% of the Force’s points.
Lara McSpadden led the home side with a 23 points and 14 rebounds double-double.
Logan Thunder 77 def by Southern Districts Spartans 89
Southern Districts Spartans remain the only undefeated team after an 89-77 victory over Logan Thunder at Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Centre on Saturday night.
The Spartans (12-0) outscored the home side 30-16 in the final quarter, including an 11-0 run to start it, to win the top-of-the-table battle and hand the Thunder (11-1) their first loss.
The Spartans were led by Maddison Rocci (21 points including 5 of 8 three-pointers) and Madelyn Willey (21 points including 3 of 6 three-pointers).
The pair combined for 14 fourth quarter points including a big three from Rocci to spark the run and key free throws from both to seal the victory.
Nadeen Payne (pictured) scored 10 of her 20 points in the final quarter and Kalani Purcell tallied a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Logan was led by Mikaela Cann (18 points) and Mikaela Ruef (14 points, 16 rebounds). Chevannah Paalvast (13 points) and Ashley Taia (10 points) were also key contributors.
The Spartans (15 of 32 three-pointers made) outscored the Thunder (11 of 32) by 12 points from the arc.
South West Metro Pirates 60 def by Gold Coast Rollers 64
Gold Coast Rollers have snuck away with a 64-60 road win over South West Metro Pirates at Hibiscus Sports Stadium on Saturday night.
Down at each breaking including a three-point deficit headed into the final quarter, the Rollers scored the last five points of the game to claim victory.
Aimee Durbidge hit the go-ahead basket (61-60 with 59 seconds remaining) and was joined by Lauren Mansfield to seal the win at the charity stripe in the final 10 seconds. Durbidge, who only scored seven points, got three of them when they were most needed.
Mansfield scored a team-high 19 points and was joined by Casey Samuels (14 points) in double figures for Gold Coast.
South West Metro’s Amanda Johnson pulled off another monster double-double with 25 points and 18 rebounds for the home side.
Sunshine Coast Phoenix 62 def USC Rip City 54
Sunshine Coast Phoenix held off cross-town rivals USC Rip City in a gritty 62-54 victory at Maroochydore Stadium on Saturday night.
Phoenix guard Kathleen MacLeod nailed a three-pointer, just her second for the night, to give the home side a 58-54 lead with 38 seconds left in the game.
MacLeod (18 points) shared the game-high honours with teammate Amy Browne, who tallied a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Rip City were led by Carlie Smith (13 points, 16 rebounds) and Alex Delaney (13 points, 10 rebounds).
Townsville Flames 76 def Brisbane Capitals 48
Townsville Flames were too strong for Brisbane Capitals with a 76-48 win at Townsville StarFM Stadium on Saturday night.
The Flames jumped out to an 18-point half-time lead and extended it to 29 points with a 22-11 third quarter performance.
Aliza Fabbro scored a team-high 15 points for the Flames and was joined by Stephanie Reid (14 points), Harriet Carey (11 points) and Micaela Cocks (10 points) in double figures.
The Capitals struggled to find their range but were led by Anna Cameron (11 points, 12 rebounds) and Stephanie Collins (9 points, 10 rebounds).
