Miela Goodchild put up 40 points to inspire the North Gold Coast Seahawks to the win in Cairns while Sam McDaniel put on his superman cape late for Brisbane Capitals on a dramatic night in the NBL1 North.
Saturday night's women's results saw the Rockhampton Cyclones beat the Brisbane Capitals 81-58, the South West Metro Pirates defeat the Gold Coast Rollers 67-53, and the Northside Wizards down the Sunshine Coast Phoenix 93-45.
The Southern Districts Spartans also won 95-70 against the Ipswich Force while the Darwin Salties defeated the Logan Thunder 90-82, and the North Gold Coast Seahawks won 109-66 against the Cairns Dolphins.
The men's results then delivered a 93-91 win for Brisbane over Rockhampton with South West Metro defeating Gold Coast 106-98, Sunshine Coast downing Northside 89-82, Darwin beating Logan 101-93, and Cairns beating North Gold Coast 104-86.

Rockhampton Cyclones (81) defeated Brisbane Capitals (58)
The Rockhampton Cyclones made it two from two to open the NBL1 North season with he 81-58 victory at home over the Brisbane Capitals.
Coming off reaching the Grand Final last season, Rockhampton opened the 2024 season beating Townsville last Saturday by 27 points while the Caps arrived at Bravus Arena having lost eight in-a-row dating back to the end of 2023.
By the end of the first quarter, the Cyclones had opened up an 11-point advantage with that growing to 13 in the second term but Brisbane did well to stay in touch and keep Rockhampton's lead to 41-32 at the half.
But Rockhampton pulled away the longer the game went to lead by as much as 19 in the third quarter and then 25 in the fourth to end up winning 23 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Lara McSpadden did a power of work in the win for the Cyclones finishing with 18 points, 11 rebounds and two steals with Sam Bowman contributing 16 points, 12 boards, three assists and three steals.
Morgan Yaeger also put up 15 points and three rebounds with Elizajane Loader contributing 14 points, four assists and three rebounds, and Lauren Heard nine points, nine boards, three steals and two assists.
Hannah Young top-scored for Brisbane with 17 points with Hannah Hank delivering 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in her first season at the Capitals after impressing in 2023 in the NBL1 West at the Mandurah Magic.
Rockhampton hit the road next Saturday to take on the Mackay Meteorettes while the Caps are on the road to the Ipswich Force on Friday.

South West Metro Pirates (67) defeated Gold Coast Rollers (53)
Leah Scott came up huge to help keep the South West Metro Pirates undefeated to start the 2024 season with the 67-53 home win against the Gold Coast Rollers.
The Pirates came into the match up at Hibiscus Sports Stadium having beaten the Rollers on the road last week and the two teams did it all again on Saturday.
On the back of that six-point road win, South West Metro came out on fire on their home floor going on a 15-0 run in the opening period to lead by 11, but Gold Coast had done well to cut the deficit back to five by quarter-time.
It remained a tight contest in the second quarter with the Pirates just clinging to a 32-29 advantage by the main break.
It was still only a six-point lead at three quarter-time for the home team but then South West Metro powered away in the final stanza with 15 points to seven including scoring 10 straight points on the way to the 14-point win.
It's two wins over Gold Coast for the Pirates to start the season with Leah Scott coming up huge delivering 29 points, 10 rebounds and four steals on 13/21 shooting from the floor.
Allanah Anthony, Bronte Corke, Myka Arthur and Charli Bliss then all scored eight points as well for South West Metro.
Cassidy Gould top-scored for Gold Coast with 18 points to go with 10 rebounds and six assists with Lisa Koop producing 15 points and 18 boards, and Jayla Cassidy 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Pirates remain at home next Saturday to host the Ipswich Force while Gold Coast heads to the Top End to face the Darwin Salties.

Sunshine Coast Phoenix (45) lost to Northside Wizards (93)
The defending champion Northside Wizards showed their dominance once more with the 93-45 road victory on Saturday against the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.
On the back of winning last year's NBL1 North championship, the Wizards had won their opening two games of 2024 heading into Saturday's match up with the winless Phoenix at Maroochydore Stadium.
It had only been one game the Phoenix had lost but taking on the Wizards was always going to be a stern test, and by quarter-time the reigning champions had already opened up an 11-point advantage.
Northside continued on with the job with another 25 points to 14 in the second period as well to go into the half-time break leading 47-25.
It was more of the same in the second half with the Wizards outscoring the Phoenix 46 to 20 in the second half to end up winning by 48 points to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Nadeen Payne was tremendous in the win for Northside with 22 points, five rebounds and two assists with AJ Johnson delivering another 18 points, 17 boards, four assists and four steals.
Erin Bollmann contributed 18 points, 11 boards, four assists and four steals while Jess McDowell-White finished with 15 points, five boards and five assists.
Nicola Handreck top-scored for Sunshine Coast with 11 points and six rebounds with Grace Rodgers contributing nine points, eight boards and three assists, and Amy Browne nine points and four rebounds.
The two teams do it all again against one another next Saturday at Northside Indoor Sports Centre.

Southern Districts Spartans (95) defeated Ipswich Force (70)
Maddy Allen had a huge night and the Southern Districts Spartans came away with the commanding 95-70 home victory against the Ipswich Force.
The Force arrived at Rowland Cowan Stadium looking for a first win of the season but the Spartans weren’t in a giving mood on their home floor, and had opened up an 11-point lead by quarter-time.
Southern Districts then blew the game open further to lead by as much as 28 points during the second frame and then to be well in control up 54-26 at the half-time interval.
The lead blew out to as much as 33 points as well in the second half for the Spartans before they won by 25 to improve to 2-1 on the season with Ipswich now 0-2.
Maddy Allen starred in the win for Southern Districts with 28 points and seven assists while knocking down 7/11 from three-point territory.
Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard added 20 points and 10 boards while Alice Dart contributed 13 points, three rebounds and three assists, Steph Bairstow 12 points and five boards, and Ariana Moorer 10 points and four assists.
Kate Head top-scored off the bench for Ipswich with 20 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals while Claire Fraser added 18 points and six boards, and Georgia Ralph 16 points and four steals.
The Spartans don't play again until hosting the Sunshine Coast Phoenix next Sunday with Ipswich hosting the Brisbane Capitals on Friday.

Darwin Salties (90) defeated Logan Thunder (82)
The Darwin Salties had to come from behind but with Courtney Woods leading the charge they overran the Logan Thunder for the 90-82 home victory.
Darwin opened its season beating Cairns also at Darwin Basketball Stadium ahead of hosting a Logan team looking to bounce back from a loss first up to the North Gold Coast Seahawks.
The Salties did finish the first quarter well with a 10-0 scoring run to be leading 23-19 by the end of one but the Thunder got on top throughout the second frame with 24 points to 19, and to take the narrow 43-42 advantage into the locker room for half-time.
It was still Logan clinging to a 61-60 advantage by three quarter-time, but it was Darwin who took charge in the final period spurred on by their vocal home fans.
The Salties outscored Logan 30 points to 21 in that last quarter to end up winning by 18 to make it two from to start the season, and then the Thunder losing their first two games.
Courtney Woods produced a standout display in the win for Darwin made up of 26 points, seven assists and five steals on 7/10 shooting from the field and 11/12 from the free-throw line.
She had plenty of help too with Cat MacGregor ending up with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists, Ruby Porter 16 points, four boards, three assists and two steals, and Abigail Curtin 14 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Mikhaela Cann top-scored for Logan with 18 points, nine assists and six rebounds with Chevannah Paalvast adding 17 points, 10 boards and four assists, Jade Kirisome 16 points and seven rebounds, and Sharni Reisinger 12 points and seven boards.
Darwin remains at home to play host to the Gold Coast Rollers next Saturday with Logan on the road to the North Gold Coast Seahawks.

A career-best 40-point outburst from Miela Goodchild lifted the North Gold Coast Seahawks to the 109-66 impressive road win over the Cairns Dolphins.
Goodchild put up 34 points on Friday night but it wasn’t quite enough for the Seahawks against the Townsville Flames ahead of heading to Cairns to take on the Dolphins on Saturday.
The job was ahead of Cairns who lost in Round 1 to the Darwin Salties by 37 points and even though they were on their home floor for the first time in 2024, the Seahawks arrived on a mission.
The two teams combined for 62 points in the opening period with North Gold Coast leading 36-26 by quarter-time.
The Seahawks then took further control in the second frame to open up a 24-point advantage and that lead continued to grow out to 35 points in the third period, and 45 in the fourth.
North Gold Coast would go on to win by 43 points to improve to 2-1 on the season while Cairns is now 0-2.
Miela Goodchild continues to thrive on the confidence gained from her WNBL season at the Perth Lynx and delivered a career-best performance made up of 40 points, 10 rebounds, six steals and three assists.
Less than 24 hours after 34 points against Townsville, she shot 14/28 from the field, 6/12 from three-point land and 6/7 at the foul line.
Mikaela Ruef contributed 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals as well for the Seahawks with Majella Carey contributing 20 points, five boards and four assists, Grace Champion 17 points, and Kendell Heremaia five points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks.
Teyahna Bond top-scored for the Dolphins with 20 points with 3/6 shooting from deep with Amy Lewis contributing 12 points and five assists, Leichan Williams eight points, four rebounds and two assists, and Andrianna Francis eight points and five boards.
Cairns takes on Tropical Far North rivals Townsville on the road next Saturday while the Seahawks will play host to the Logan Thunder on Friday.

Rockhampton Rockets (91) lost to Brisbane Capitals (93)
Sam McDaniel put on his super hero cape late in the piece to deliver the Brisbane Capitals their first win with Greg Vanderjagt as coach to win a thriller 93-91 away to the Rockhampton Rockets.
Both teams were chasing their first win of the season when they met at Bravus Arena and they would go on to put on quite the show.
They combined for 59 points in the first quarter with Brisbane leading 31-28 by the end of one before the Caps were able to extend that to 56-50 at half-time.
Rockhampton took charge in the third period, though, completing a 16-0 scoring run to open up a nine-point lead, and then still being on top by five in the fourth quarter.
The Rockets were still up virtually all the last term too including by five with 2:30 to play after a Nighael Ceaser jumper.
That's when Brisbane Bullets wing Sam McDaniel decided to play match winner on the back of the best and most complete NBL season of his career where Greg Vanderjagt is also his assistant coach.
McDaniel hit a three-pointer to bring the Capitals back within two points and then took the ball inside and scored on a floater to level scores up.
Ceaser regained the lead for the Rockets before McDaniel responded and then he took care of the result with the go-ahead pull up jumper from just inside the arc over two defenders with 0.6 seconds to go.
Rockhampton had the chance with a prayer out of a timeout but Hayden Richardson's three wouldn’t bank in with Brisbane holding on to win by two for a first win of the season.
McDaniel finished with 23 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two blocks for the Capitals with Geordan Papacostas delivering 20 points, 15 rebounds and two assists.
Isaih Tueta also had 15 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds with Gabe Hadley adding 14 points, six boards, three assists and two steals, and Cameron Thew 12 points and six rebounds.
Nighael Ceaser put up 31 points, 14 rebounds, five steals, two assists and two blocked shots on 14/22 shooting for the Rockets.
Xavier Ford also had 22 points and three steals, Ben Tweedy 17 points and 17 assists, and Sean Biernacki nine points, six rebounds and six assists.
Rockhampton hit the road next Saturday to take on the Mackay Meteors while the Caps are on the road to the Ipswich Force on Friday.

The South West Metro Pirates put together a standout team performance led by Lamar Patterson and eight threes from Kai Woodfall to beat the Gold Coast Rollers 106-98.
On the back of winning the 2022 NBL1 North championship and then making the Grand Final again in 2023 after finishing in first place, Gold Coast had started the 2024 season in ominous form with wins against Ipswich and South West Metro.
It was a rematch from last week with the Pirates on Saturday night at Hibiscus Sports Stadium, and South West Metro had learned some lessons and came out with a point to prove.
The Pirates would end up leading virtually the whole evening including by nine points during the first quarter, by 13 during the third and then as much as 15 in the fourth.
The threat was always there of a fightback from Gold Coast, but it never eventuated with the Pirates delivering a standout four-quarter performance for the eight-point win and to improve to 1-1 to start the season in the process.
Lamar Patterson was part of that championship team at the Rollers in 2022 and he shone against his former team delivering 24 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals for South West Metro.
Kai Woodfall ended up top-scoring with 26 points with 8/10 three-point shooting while Roman Siulepa added 18 points and 10 rebounds, Brendan Teys 13 points, and Lachlan Anderson 10 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Reigning MVP Jason Cadee still had 33 points, seven assists and six rebounds despite the loss for Gold Coast with 14/17 free-throw shooting.
Daniel Titus added 22 points, five rebounds and three steals for the Rollers, Boston Mazlin 19 points, three assists and two steals, and Elijah Kamu 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Pirates remain at home next Saturday to host the Ipswich Force while Gold Coast heads to the Top End to face the Darwin Salties.

Sunshine Coast Phoenix (89) defeated Northside Wizards (82)
The Sunshine Coast Phoenix finished strongly to record their first win of the NBL1 North season and handing the Northside Wizards a first loss with the 89-82 triumph.
The Phoenix were at home at Maroochydore Stadium chasing their first win of the season but it was never going to be easy against the Darryl McDonald coached Wizards who had won their first two games of 2024.
However, Sunshine Coast started impressively to lead by seven during the first quarter and then extend that advantage out to 11 during the second term, and still be on top 49-45 going into the half-time break.
The Phoenix pushed back out to an eight-point edge early in the third quarter, but the Wizards picked up the momentum to go on an 11-0 scoring streak and grab the lead.
Northside had pushed out to an eight-point lead during the fourth quarter too, but Sunshine Coast were able to turn the tide in their favour once more and a 9-0 run saw them go from two points down to seven up, and score their first win of 2024.
Jamaal Robateau finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds on 8/11 shooting in the win for the Phoenix with Jeryn Lucas contributing 18 points and eight rebounds.
Duom Dawam also had 16 points, 13 rebounds and four assists with Kobe McDowell-White adding 11 points, eight boards and four assists, and Cooper Urquhart nine points and eight rebounds.
Lual Diing top-scored for Northside with 22 points and 10 rebounds on 5/9 three-point shooting with Jackson Makoi putting up 19 points, seven assists and five rebounds ahead of joining the Cairns Taipans for NBL25 having spent the past season at the Sydney Kings.
The two teams do it all again against one another next Saturday at Northside Indoor Sports Centre.

Darwin Salties (101) defeated Logan Thunder (93)
The one-two punch of Makuach Maluach and Kouat Noi combined for 59 points, 13 rebounds and eight assists as the Darwin Salties won at home 101-93 over Logan Thunder.
Logan won its opening game of the season last weekend over the North Gold Coast Seahawks while the Salties lost at home to the Cairns Marlins.
Darwin was back home at Darwin Basketball Stadium on Saturday night to host the Thunder and the Salties weren't about to lose a second home game to open the season.
The Salties raced out to a 13-point lead in the opening period and by quarter-time were leading 32-21.
That lead got out to 15 points in the second term but by half-time Logan had worked back into the contest and cut the Darwin advantage to 58-51.
That set up an entertaining second half but the Salties continued to have the answers and never surrendered the lead for a second on the way to the eventual eight-point victory.
Makuach Maluach had some standout moments this past NBL season at the Sydney Kings, and was a man possessed for Darwin with 30 points, 10 rebounds and six assists on 11/21 shooting from the floor and 5/12 from downtown.
Kouat Noi was his teammate at the Kings and starred in the win too with 29 points on 9/12 shooting with 4/6 from deep with Verle Williams adding 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Wani Swaka Lo Buluk also ended up with 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists while Chier Maker contributed nine points, seven boards and three assists.
Despite the first loss of the season for Logan, Zac Triplett ended up with 28 points, six rebounds and three assists, Callum Dalton 27 points, 14 boards, two assists and two steals, and Shaun Bruce 15 points, 10 assists and five rebounds.
Darwin remains at home to play host to the Gold Coast Rollers next Saturday with Logan on the road to the North Gold Coast Seahawks.

Cairns Marlins (104) defeated North Gold Coast Seahawks (86)
The Stattmann brothers combined for another 56 points to deliver the Cairns Marlins a second straight win to open the season with the 104-86 victory at home to the North Gold Coast Seahawks.
The Marlins had won on the road in Darwin by 13 points last week to open the season and had their home opener at Early Settler Stadium on Saturday up against the Seahawks.
That was a North Gold Coast team fresh off winning in Townsville the previous night setting up a tantalising match up.
The Marlins wanted to make a statement in front of their home fans and did so immediately putting up 17 straight points to lead by that margin, and still be on top 33-20 by the end of one.
Cairns would continue to dominate the rest of the way from there leading by as much as 21 points in the second period, 30 in the third and again by 29 in the fourth on the way to the eventual 18-point triumph.
The victory improves the Marlins to a 2-0 record to open the season while North Gold Coast is now 1-2.
The Stattmann brothers were again the star of the show for Cairns with Kody producing 31 points, eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks, and Ky 25 points and three rebounds with them combining to shoot 21/42 from the field and 11/20 from three-point territory.
Alex Mudronja added 17 points and five assists for the Marlins with Kian Dennis contributing nine points and seven rebounds, Travis Drinnan eight points and five rebounds, and Jaylen Pitman seven points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
Cameron Healy top-scored in the loss for the Seahawks with 24 points to go with five rebounds and four assists while Nathaniel Salmon added 19 points and six boards, Matt Kenyon 14 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, and Khobie De Haan 13 points and six boards.
