With the chance to still make the NBL1 North Finals, the Sunshine Coast Phoenix will have to bring their absolute A-game to conquer Logan at home.
Sitting only one win out of the top six, a victory on Saturday night would give them a chance to make the conference finals, and possibly represent the club on the biggest stage at the Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 National Finals in August.
Star forward for the Phoenix, Nelson Kahler explained that there’s no better place than where he calls home to host such a spectacle.
“Being a born-and-bred Sunny Coast boy, I’m so passionate about where I live, I’m passionate about my club and I’m passionate about the future of basketball on the Sunshine Coast,” he told Jon Guarna.
“Having the NBL1 National Championship on the Sunny Coast is going to be amazing. It’s one of the most popular tourist destinations, not only in the country, but the world.
“To host the National Championship is going to be special.”
A videographer and content creator off the court, Kahler has seen the growth of basketball across the country in the past few years. He explained that for his hometown to host the best talent across the nation, will be special.
“The level of basketball around the country just gets better and better every year,” he said.
“The level of the NBL1 and every conference around the country gets better. For the Sunshine Coast to be able to host that and showcase that, as well as enjoy all the other benefits that the Coast has to offer, I just can’t wait.
“Hopefully we are a part of it, but I’m going to be there regardless.”
Watch the Phoenix take on the Thunder live on Saturday, streaming live from 8:00pm AEST via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
