Talented and versatile guard Jack Barry is the latest signing for the Ringwood Hawks, who will start their NBL1 season this Saturday night.
After building a reputation as one of the top players in the Big V over the past six years, the Hawks were able to present a challenge that Barry was ready to embrace.
“NBL1 is definitely the league you want to be playing in these days,” Barry said.
“The level of play week in and week out is a great challenge and there are no easy games in NBL1 South.”
Barry was a star at the Hawthorn Magic in the Big V Championship division and was well-known around the league as a great shooter and team leader.
The Hawks had developed plenty of respect for Barry when they were battling it out in the Big V and they could definitely see a role for him in 2021.
“Jack fits what we always look for, a good person first and foremost,” Hawks Assistant Coach Mark Sutton said.
“He is a great shooter, can run the point, is unselfish and puts the team first.”
Since arriving at the Hawks, Barry has displayed all those characteristics and will be a big part of whether the Hawks are going to be serious finals threats this year.
Barry and his Hawks' first test will be this Saturday night in week one of NBL1 South action when the team hits the road to face Eltham.
The Wildcats and Hawks always put on a great show, with some classic battles over the past five years.
In 2019, it took two overtime periods for the Hawks to get the win over Eltham and this game may be just as competitive.
