The Melbourne Tigers continue to make major moves, signing Opal Isobel Borlase for the 2025 season.

The Paris Olympian is coming off a major season with the WNBL's Adelaide Lighting, averaging 14.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists for her hometown club.

The superstar guard will join a stacked line-up at the Togers, featuring young gun Sienna Harvey, scoring machine Indiah Bowyer, star forward Ella Tofaneono and former Opal Sara Blicavs on the 2025 roster.

Coach Kaleb Sclater explained what Borlase will be able to provide to the club.

“To have a young Olympian like Izzy call us and say she wants to be a Tiger speaks volumes about the direction of our program. She sees Melbourne as a place where she can continue to develop her game, and that’s a huge compliment to what we’re building here," he said.

“Her arrival is also massive for our junior girls. They get to see one of the rising faces of Australian basketball up close every week, which is incredibly inspiring. To have someone like Izzy, who has already played on the international stage, be part of our club will only push our young athletes to dream bigger and work harder.

“We’re excited to help Izzy take the next step in her career. She’s got a huge future ahead, and we want to be a springboard for her to reach the WNBA and play in future Opals tournaments. We can’t wait to see her in Tigers colours and watch her continue to grow.”

Upon signing, Borlase believes the Tigers have real championship potential under coach Sclater.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the Melbourne Tigers and compete in the NBL1 South conference. There’s a lot of talent coming through the South, and I’m looking forward to challenging myself against the best," she said.

"I’ve been in discussions with Kaleb for a while, and he’s always made it clear that the door was open whenever I was ready to make the move. I’m eager to play alongside the talented group we have and hopefully help bring a championship to the Tigers.”
