With an 8-0 record to start the season, the 2023 conference champions believe this is just the start of a historic season.

The Bears, headlined by Carla Pitman and coached by former WNBL Finals MVP Renae Garlepp have stormed through the East thus far -- as one of three teams in the country with eight wins straight (Newcastle and Geelong).

Upon reflecting on their impressive run of form, Garlepp is satisfied with where her side is at, but knows there is still plenty of work to do if they plan to conquer the East again.

“We’re in a good place,” Garlepp told the Sydney Flames

“The connection and commitment across the group have been strong, and we’ve found ways to win in different situations. That said, we’re not reading too much into the results.

“We’ve still got plenty to work on, and our focus stays on where we’re at and what needs addressing to keep improving.”

Heading into Round 7 against the Centre of Excellence, who sit in third with a 7-1 record, Garlepp admits the team’s main focus has been improving themselves on the defensive end.

“Every game hasn’t been perfect, but our effort and intent are consistent,” she said.

“Offensively, we’re moving the ball well and playing unselfishly. Everyone’s bought into doing what’s best for the team — I’m lucky to coach a group like that.

“Defensively, we’ve still got areas to tighten up, and that’s where our focus is heading.”

The Bears will host Sitaya Fagen and the Centre of Excellence on Saturday, from 5:00pm AEST live via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App
