Breaking down the Cougars statement win

The Women’s Cockburn Cougars are well and truly the hunted in the NBL1 West.

The 9-0 Cougars had a statement win in Round 9, beating the Joondalup Wolves at home by 11 points, with conference expert Greg Hire declaring it a statement win.

“That’s a pretty emphatic win when you beat one of the championship contenders and a stacked team,” Hire said on The NBL1 Show. 

“I think the big reason (why they won) was Robbi Ryan, they limited her. She has been really good to start the year, she’s an MVP candidate, but they held her to nine points.” 

So far this season, Robbi Ryan has averaged 19.3 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists, shooting 51.5 percent from the field. In their two games against the Cougars this season, Ryan averaged 14.5 points, 2.5 assists and 47.6 percent from the field. 

The Cougars have a massive test this weekend, playing against the Foot Locker Player of the Week Darcee Garbin and the Goldfields Giants on Saturday.
