The Rockhampton basketball club have left South East Queensland with four major wins between the women’s and men’s sides, as they become threats of the North.

Both the Cyclones and the Rockets went 2-0 this weekend in NBL1 North, with the Rockets earning their first win of the season.

Import Nighael Ceaser assures his side is focused on maintaining their momentum after the strong weekend.

“We’re just playing a little bit harder,” Caesar said.

“We could keep winning, honestly. I feel like the losses are on us, it didn’t have anything to do with the other team. So we’re getting into a rhythm and we can keep going.”

After games against the Ipswich Force and the South West Metro Pirates, the men’s side have moved up to eighth place on the NBL1 North ladder, whilst the women sit comfortably at second remaining undefeated.

2023 NBL1 Central All-Star Five Member, Morgan Yaeger, was thrilled to see the Cyclones maintain their undefeated record.

“I thought coming down here, double header, having to go back to back, maybe not as prepared as we’d like to be. But to go and grab those two wins was really good for us,” she said.

Yaeger touched on the optimism of her side, as they eye another Grand Final appearance, after the side fell short to the Northside Wizards in the 2023 Grand Final Series.

“We’ve got to keep playing how we play, try not to go away from our style. What we play is a great brand of basketball,” she said.

“I think it can get us back there, we just need to be who we are and play as a team, push the pace, and I think as long as we’re a team we’ll be there again.”

While both sides have a bye this weekend, their next opponents will be Northside, setting up a mouth-watering rematch for the women’s side and an electric men’s game.

The Cyclones host the Wizards on Sunday, May 19 at 1:00pm AEST in Round 6.
