After hiring their first full-time general manager, the Darwin Salties have set their eyes on 2024 as the season to take their program to the next level.

The Salties were introduced to the NBL1 North in 2022, hosting two successful teams and having both their women’s and men’s squads make Finals this past season.

With previously hosting an NBL Blitz, and the success of the NBL1 team, GM Matt Nason says that Darwin is becoming a destination club.

“The opportunity is enormous,” Nason said via NT News.

“The groundwork that has already been laid by the organisation in such a short period of time and the success they’ve already achieved is nothing but impressive.”

Previously running USC Rip City’s program Nason has experience in running a women’s and men’s program capable of Finals success. Stating his goal is to bring home silverware to the NT.

“We want to have both the men’s and women’s sides make the final four,” he said.

“Our goal is to have home finals and more aspirationally, win some silverware. But in doing so we need to continue to bolster the brand, implement and continue structures that’ll deliver success and continue to grow.”

While Nason explains that building up their juniors program will be a priority to ensure the longevity of the club, he is extremely impressed with the support the new team has gathered over the past two seasons.

“The support for the Salties is immense,” he said.

“The support from the fans, community, volunteers, sponsors and government has been second to none.”
