Townsville Flames needed a major third-quarter comeback to overcome Mackay Meteorettes 56-52 in NBL1 North Women Rivalry Round at Townsville StarFM Stadium on Friday night.
Down 12 points at the main break, local WNBL stars Steph Reid and Micaela Cocks led the fight back to level the scores 38-38 heading into the final quarter.
Reid scored six of her game high 18 points and Cocks added eight of her 14 points in the crucial third period.
But Reid’s two made free throws in the final 10 seconds were no less important as the Flames sealed the four-point victory.
Mackay centre and Australian Opal Cayla George top scored for the Meteorettes with a 17 points and 17 rebounds double-double.
Townsville’s Heidi Freeburn (13 points) and Mackay’s Mia Miller (12 points) played 40 minutes respectively.
