After leading the West Adelaide Bearcats to a championship last season, Jasmin Fejo says she is ready to take on this NBL1 Central season with more to prove.

“Going into that game we knew we wanted to win, we knew what we had to do and it was going to come down to all the effort and the little things,” Fejo said on The Hoopers NBL1 Central Basketball Show.

“Everyone stepped up and played for each other and it was just fun basketball,” she said,

“We just focus on ourselves, and that is definitely going to be in play this season. We’ve just got to take it one day at a time.

“We know there will be a lot of trash talk, especially when we go up against Sturt. It will be heated.”

The NBL1 Central All-Star Five member changed their focus quickly after beating Sturt to the big dance, the Coles Express NBL1 National Finals.

The 21-year-old star iterated the experience of the short turnaround and the amount of talent that was showcased at the inaugural National Finals.

“The level of basketball from all the other states, it is insane. I’ve played at the high level of WNBL and so having played the other states, they are very switched on,” she said.

“We were just exhausted from celebrating, but also having that recovery from playing a grand final the week before, leaving on the Friday morning and then playing the Friday afternoon, it was massive… The thing that stood out to me was their defence.”

Jasmin Fejo is coming off a WNBL season with the Adelaide Lightning, saying her experience within the league this season will directly translate in her growth and development with the Bearcats.

“The group of girls and the coached we had for Lightening were super supportive and very disciplined. We had to run into the corners and all of those small little things. I feel like I’m now transferring that to the Bearcats in NBL1,” she said.

She spoke on maintaining confidence with the Bears this year and is keen to get back on the courts.

“Staying disciplined within myself, I know that I can ball out and it’s more of a confidence thing,” Fejo said.

“I’m very keen, I feel like I’ve got a lot more to show this season and I’ve finally got that confidence back.”

NBL1 Central kicks off on Saturday, March 25, with Fejo and the Bearcats playing their first game of the season against the Woodville Warriors at 6:30pm ACDT at the Port Adelaide Recreation Centre. Watch the game live & free on NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App here.
