After an embarrassing 42-point loss to the Southern Districts Spartans in Round 5, the Logan Thunder had a dramatic bounce-back performance over the runners-up from last season, the Gold Coast Rollers.

Protecting their home court with a 93-79 result, two-time NBL champion and Logan captain, Shaun Bruce, had an impressive 22 points and 11 assists to secure their fourth win of the season.

“It was huge, I know we got embarrassed last week and had to come out and show what we are about tonight, and the boys bought in and that was awesome,” he told Jon Guarna post-game.

“What we saw last week, we don’t want to see again. It was just about getting back to what we are about.”

The Melbourne United pair of Callum Dalton and Zac Triplett have been major influences in Logan’s third-placed position on the ladder – with Dalton scoring 19 points with nine rebounds while Triplett added nine points, seven rebounds and five assists.

However, the combination of NBL1 North MVP Jason Cadee and NBL champion Will Magnay have been a dominant duo. It shows how impactful Logan’s defence has been, as the NBL duo were held to only 18 points combined.

Bruce explained that playing against Gold Coast was a great challenge, setting themselves up to practice what they preached after their loss to the Spartans.

“We are playing against NBL guys, it’s a lot of fun,” he said.

“Jason and Will are great players. It’s good to go up in those matchups.”

The Thunder start Round 7 in Townsville to take on Kyrin Galloway’s Heat on Friday night, then they’ll head over to Cairns on Saturday to take on the Stattman brothers.
