NBL1 NORTH – 2022 WOMEN'S SEASON
ROUND 2 – FRIDAY NIGHT

IPSWICH FORCE 58 lost to BRISBANE CAPITALS 60

It turned out to be a thriller between the Ipswich Force and Brisbane Capitals on Friday night with both teams chasing their first wins of the 2022 NBL1 North Women's season.

Ipswich started the season last week with a pair of road losses to the Townsville Flames and Cairns Dolphins but were on their home floor at JBS Stadium on Friday night to host the Capitals.

Brisbane opened its season with a narrow loss last Saturday night away to the Northside Wizards as well so both were hunting a first win for 2022 on Friday night.

Little separated both teams most of the evening with the Capitals leading by two points at quarter-time and then going into half-time leading 29-20.

Ipswich was able to get right back into the contest in the third quarter and then it was a seesaw battle the rest of the way.

Three free-throws from Georgia Ralph in the dying stages saw scores all square at 58-58 but it was Abby Cubillo who scored the game-winner for the Capitals out of a time out to give the visitors the 60-58 victory.

It was a dominant rebounding performance from Brisbane as they raked in 56 boards to 36 for the night, but them shooting 11/23 at 47.8 per cent from the free-throw line kept the door ajar for the Force.

Stephanie Collins finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for Brisbane with Abby Cubillo contributing 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Anna Cameron 10 points, 10 boards and four steals, and Bronte Corke nine points and nine rebounds.

Kasey Burton finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for Ipswich, Tia Hay 14 points and four boards, and Claudia Amato eight points and two assists.

SUNSHINE COAST PHOENIX 62 lost to GOLD COAST ROLLERS 77

The Gold Coast Rollers opened up their 2022 NBL1 North Women's campaign with an impressive 15-point win on the road to the Sunshine Coast Phoenix on Friday night.

Gold Coast was playing its first game of the season while the Phoenix had lost twice in the opening round to the Rockhampton Cyclones and Mackay Meteorettes away from home.

While Lauren Mansfield started on fire with five quick points for Gold Coast to help them lead 7-2 at Maroochydore Stadium, she also picked up two early fouls to open the door for Sunshine Coast.

The home team was able to capitalise to score the next six points to take a lead but the Rollers assumed back control to lead 18-11 by quarter-time.

However, Sunshine Coast did well in the second quarter to put up 22 points to 15 and that saw scores tied at 33-33 by half-time.

Gold Coast led by four at three quarter-time and then secured the win in the fourth quarter on the back of 21 points to 10 to prevail 77-62.

Lauren Mansfield shook off the early foul trouble with the Sydney Uni Flames WNBL star finishing the night with 25 points and eight assists.

Sarah Ambrose added 19 points and eight rebounds for the Rollers, Angela Lou Beadle 18 points and four boards, and Jade Peacock six points and 10 rebounds.

Eryka Sidney ended up top-scoring for Sunshine Coast with 17 points and four assists with Tanaya Beacham contributing 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Brianna Gregory-Johnson nine points and five boards.
