NBL1 North Recap | Saturday Men's Round 12

Lachie Dent put up 41 points while Ethan Betts delivered 34 points and 10 assists, and Tad Dufelmeier, Jerron Jamerson and Makuach Maluach combined for 91 points as part of Saturday night in the NBL1 North Men's competition.

There were Saturday night NBL1 North wins for the Brisbane Capitals, Mackay Meteors, Southern Districts Spartans, Townsville Heat, Darwin Salties and USC Rip City.
Round 12 in the NBL1 North Men's competition began on Friday night with Ipswich Force defeating Logan Thunder 98-76 while the Cairns Marlins beat Red City Roar 109-81 and the Rockhampton Rockets defeated the Northside Wizards 102-95.
Then on Saturday night, the Brisbane Capitals hit the road and defeated the South West Metro Pirates 107-83.
Lachlan Dent came up huge for the Capitals with seven three-pointers on his way to 41 points with Max Mackinnon adding 23 points and nine boards. Jakobe Hunter and Brendan Teys scored 19 points apiece for South West.
The Mackay Meteors proved too strong at home for the Northside Wizards ending up winning 103-70 on Saturday night.
Kyrin and Jaylin Galloway combined for 45 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals for Mackay while Cameron Thew top-scored for the Wizards with 16 points.
It was a road victory for the Southern Districts Spartans on Saturday night as they defeated the Sunshine Coast Phoenix 96-85.
Jalen Canty finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds for Southern Districts with Ben Hastings and Chris Cedar scoring 18 points apiece. Jamaal Robateau top-scored for Sunshine Coast with 21 points.
The Townsville Heat put on a show for their home fans in Round 12 action on Saturday night with the 109-76 win against the Red City Roar.
Ethan Betts delivered 34 points and 10 rebounds in the win for Townsville with Richard Peachey adding 24 points. Nelson Larkins top-scored for Red City with 21 points.
The Darwin Salties were back home in the Top End and put together a standout performance to beat the Gold Coast Rollers 116-96.
Tad Dufelmeier put up 34 points for Darwin, Makuach Maluach 32 and Jerron Jamerson 25 while Tanner Krebs scored 30 points for Gold Coast.
USC Rip City scored an 88-76 win against the North Gold Coast Seahawks on Saturday night.
Isaih Tueta finished with 26 points and nine assists for Rip City while Lloyd McVeigh top-scored for North Gold Coast with 22 points.
The Round 12 NBL1 North action will wrap up on Sunday afternoon with the North Gold Coast Seahawks hosting the Logan Thunder, and Southern Districts Spartans playing the South West Metro Pirates.

SOUTH WEST METRO PIRATES 83 lost to BRISBANE CAPITALS 107
The Brisbane Capitals produced an impressive performance away from home on Saturday night to beat the South West Metro Pirates by 24 points.
The Pirates were on their home court at Hibiscus Sports Stadium to host the Capitals as part of Round 12 in the NBL1 North and it was the home team who started strongly to be leading 24-22 by the end of the first quarter.
The Capitals took right over throughout the second quarter by turning a six-point deficit into a 13-point lead heading towards half-time before they took the 52-42 advantage into the major break.
Brisbane kept that momentum going in the second half starting with the lead growing to 22 points in the third quarter, and then 28 in the fourth before they settled on the eventual 107-83 victory.
The victory improves Brisbane to a 9-7 record on the season while South West is now 4-9 following the defeat.
It was a remarkable dominance on the boards from Brisbane as they raked in 60 rebounds to 38 for the game including 23 at the offensive end to 12.
Lachlan Dent produced a standout performance in the big win for the Capitals delivering 41 points, six rebounds and four assists on the back of shooting 11/18 from the floor, 7/10 from three-point land and 12/12 from the foul line.
Max Mackinnon added 23 points and nine rebounds for Brisbane, Geordan Papacostas 14 points and eight boards, Ben Volkman 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Tim Soong 10 points and eight boards.
Jakobe Hunter finished with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists for South West, Brendan Teys 19 points and five boards, Taylor Young 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Tendekai Machando six points and three assists.
MACKAY METEORS 103 defeated NORTHSIDE WIZARDS 70
The Mackay Meteors delivered a dominant performance at home to beat the Northside Wizards by 33 points on Saturday night.
The Meteors played host to the Wizards at Mackay Basketball Stadium in Round 12 of the NBL1 North and it was a tight opening with Mackay only leading 27-23 by the end of the opening quarter.
The Meteors had overcome an early eight-point deficit and then dominated the second quarter with 21 points to 12 to lead by as much as 15 points leading towards half-time and then being up 48-35 at the break.
Mackay continued their dominance throughout the second half scoring another nine straight points in the third quarter to lead by as much as 30 points.
The lead ballooned out to 39 points in the fourth quarter and eventually the Meteors beat a Wizards team without Mitch McCarron 103-70.
The victory keeps Mackay on top of the NBL1 North standings with an 11-4 record while the Wizards are now 7-7 following the defeat.
Kyrin Galloway finished with 24 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Meteors on 11/15 shooting with brother Jaylin Galloway adding 21 points, three boards, three assists and two steals on 10/13 shooting from the foul line.
Malok Majak added 12 points and nine rebounds, Rhys Martin 12 points, four assists and four steals, and Viliami Foketi 11 points, three rebounds and three steals.
Cameron Thew top-scored for the Wizards with 16 points and five rebounds while Lual Diing contributed 13 points and seven rebounds, Atem Atem 14 points and three boards, and Anthony Drmic 11 points.
SUNSHINE COAST PHOENIX 85 lost to SOUTHERN DISTRICTS SPARTANS 96
The Southern Districts Spartans scored a hard earned 96-85 victory against the Sunshine Coast Phoenix on Saturday night.
The two teams locked horns in Round 12 NBL1 North action at Maroochydore Stadium and it was a tight affair throughout the first half.
Southern Districts led narrowly 21-20 at quarter-time and then both teams combined for 56 points in an entertaining second quarter before the Spartans extended their advantage to 51-46 by half-time.
The Spartans then took over the contest in the third quarter by going on a 12-0 run which saw their lead grow to 17 points.
They would maintain that advantage throughout the rest of the game to end up winning 96-85.
It is just a second win on the season for the Spartans while as a result of the loss the Phoenix slip to 7-8.
While Sunshine Coast did collect 11 more rebounds for the game, Southern Districts executed well with 29 assists on their 37 made field goals while they knocked down 16/35 from three-point land opposed to 7/24 for the Phoenix.
Jalen Canty finished the night with 24 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, four blocks and two steals for Southern Districts with Ben Hastings adding 18 points and three rebounds while hitting 6/11 from three-point range.
Chris Cedar added 18 points and nine assists for the Spartans, Kobe McDowell-White 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals, and Tom Ammar eight points with two triples.
Jamaal Robateau ended the night with 21 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals for Sunshine Coast with Oscar Cluff contributing 16 points and four boards, Nelson Kahler 15 points and 19 rebounds, and Mason Bragg 13 points, six assists and five boards.
TOWNSVILLE HEAT 109 defeated RED CITY ROAR 76
The Townsville Heat produced a dominant performance at home on Saturday night to beat the Red City Roar by 33 points.
Townsville was back home at Townsville StarFM Stadium as part of NBL1 North Round 12 action against Red City and the Heat opened up a double-figure lead during the first quarter, and were up 27-20 by quarter-time.
Townsville pulled further away in the second quarter going on another 8-0 scoring run to lead by as much as 21 points while leading 55-38 by the half-time break.
The Heat continued to dominate during the third period scoring 10 more straight points with the lead ballooning out to 30 points. The advantage grew to 39 in the fourth term as well before Townsville ended up winning 109-76.
The Heat improve to a 6-9 record following the win to stay in the playoff race while the Roar slip to 4-11 following the loss.
Townsville finished the game collecting 56 rebounds to 38 while they shot at an impressive clip of 53.1 per cent from the floor and 14/27 from downtown. Red City went at 35.9 per cent and his 8/32 from beyond the arc.
Ethan Betts had a night out for Townsville with 34 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds on the back of shooting 13/23.
Richard Peachey added 24 points on shooting 6/8 from long range with Matthew Rees contributing 15 points and 10 rebounds, Harry Pennisi 11 points and 16 boards, and Taine Wattie 10 points.
Nelson Larkins top-scored for the Roar with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists while Spencer Parker contributed 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Alec Godinet 15 points and four boards, and Kane Bishop 11 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.
DARWIN SALTIES 116 defeated GOLD COAST ROLLERS 96
The Darwin Salties put on quite the offensive showcase in an eventual 20-point home win against the Gold Coast Rollers on Saturday night.
The Salties were back home in Round 12 of the NBL1 North at Darwin Basketball Stadium to host the league-leading Rollers in what shaped as a fascinating match up.
Gold Coast made a flying start to lead by 11 points early but Darwin fired back and had scored eight straight points themselves to be up 25-22 by quarter-time.
The Salties stretched their lead further during the second quarter with another 27 points to 22 to go into half-time leading 52-44.
Darwin continued their impressive offensive performance in the third quarter going on another 11-0 run to open up a 26-point advantage.
That lead got out to 27 in the fourth quarter as well and the Salties ended up beating the Rollers 116-96.
With the victory, Darwin improves to 10-4 on the season to be hot on the heels now of the second placed Rollers who are 11-4.
The Salties ended up collecting 48 rebounds to 32 for the game while shooting at a terrific clip of 55.8 per cent from the field on top of getting to the foul line 27 times to 18.
The three stars for the Salties all delivered stunning performances with Tad Dufelmeier leading the charge with 34 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Makuach Maluach added 32 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Jerron Jamerson 25 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Tanner Krebs delivered 30 points, six rebounds and three assists on the night for Gold Coast with Donovan Mitchell contributing 16 points, four boards and three assists, Jason Cadee 13 points, nine assists and five rebounds, and Tidjane Diop nine points and six boards.
NORTH GOLD COAST SEAHAWKS 76 lost to USC RIP CITY 88
USC Rip City built up a handy first half lead against the North Gold Coast Seahawks on Saturday night and were able to convert that into a 12-point road victory.
The Seahawks played host to Rip City at Runaway Bay Stadium but it was USC who quickly worked their way on top racing to an 11-point lead and still being on top 24-16 by the end of the opening term.
Rip City then piled on 33 points to 24 during the second quarter including going on a run of scoring 20 straight points to open up a 22-point advantage, and still be on top 57-40 by half-time.
USC were able to maintain that advantage throughout the second half to end up winning 88-76 with the win improving Rip City to 9-4 on the season while the Seahawks are now 4-12 following the defeat on their home floor.
Isaih Tueta produced a standout performance in the win for Rip City finishing with 26 points, nine assists and three rebounds on 11/19 shooting overall and 3/6 from three-point range.
Eric McAlister added 20 points, three rebounds and three assists for Rip City while knocking down six three-pointers.
Verle Williams contributed 13 points, three assists and three steals, Kouat Noi 12 points and 24 rebounds, and Louis Ilton six points, two rebounds and two assists.
Lloyd McVeigh put up 22 points for North Gold Coast with Aiden Krause contributing 18 points and seven rebounds, David Gurney 12 points and eight boards, and Jordan Hunter 12 points, 12 boards and three blocked shots.
