Round 7 of the NBL1 North was in full swing this weekend, with 12 games being played across Saturday alone!
Check out how the Men’s games went below:
Gold Coast Rollers (99) def Brisbane Capitals (88)
Tanner Krebs again is showing his NBL credentials with 33 points and 12 rebounds, Gold Coast are now safely at the top of the ladder and rolling. Jason Cadee and Preston Le Gassick both added 22 points for the Rollers and made eight three-pointers combined – more than Brisbane’s entire team.
The Capitals’ and Bullets pickup Max Mackinnon was outstanding, with 28 points and nine rebounds against his future Bullets teammates.
Northside Wizards (93) def South West Metro Pirates (77)
The Wizards have now won five in a row and the credit has to be given to Lual Diing; 28 points, 19 rebounds and multiple hellacious dunks got the Wizards this win. Mitch McCarron threw down his own dunk while adding 12 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
The former 36er himself Brendan Teys tried his best against the Wizards, scoring 16 points with five rebounds but Northside were too good - especially on the boards where they had 62 to Metro’s 36 rebounds.
Mackay Meteors (98) def Red City Roar (91)
It was a cracking game between the two NBL1 North teams, going down to the final quarter there were displays of individual excellence from both teams.
Nelson Larkins led the game with 30 points while Kings development player Jayden Hogdson had 23 points.
Kings teammate Jaylin Galloway also had 23 points with Biwali Bayles filling the Kings’ championship trio out with 14 points, seven assists and six rebounds.
Mackay are proving themselves to be a feisty young group, creeping their way towards the top four with young legs, warm weather and nothing to lose.
USC Rip City (93) def Southern District Spartans (77)
Without Kouat Noi, who declared he’d wants to be the NBL1 North MVP last week, Rip City still took the win over the Spartans.
Illawarra Hawks recruit Wani Swaka Lo Buluk showed off his new-found three-point range, making 3/9 while having 22 points total.
Former Townsville Crocodile Christopher Cedar had 30 points and seven rebounds while Jalen Canty had a double-double of 12 points and 15 rebounds. USC are currently in the top two of the ladder and with a healthy Noi and Swaka Lo Bulukit could be a difficult team to beat.
Logan Thunder (89) def Townsville Fire (80)
Logan’s Jeremy Kendle again is lighting up the NBL1 North, with 28 points and seven assists, he is making a strong case for the best overall scorer in the conference (currently leading in points per game in the Men’s NBL1 North).
Townsville’s Sam Froling is still getting his legs under him with 13 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. But wasn’t able to carry his team to the win, he will definitely be one to watch as he improves throughout the rest of this NBL1 North season.
But Logan won this game in the second half, scoring 45 points to Townsville’s 32, the Thunder broke it open after half time and never looked back.
North Gold Coast Eagles (97) def Rockhampton Rockets (91)
In what lived up to the Kayo Freebies Game of the Week, the Eagles and Rockets traded blows the entire game. But the Eagles squeezed out the win with five players scoring 13 points or more while playing defence when it mattered.
Rockhampton’s Damian Prgomet had 28 points and two massive dunks on the night while South East Melbourne Phoenix guard Kendall Stephens had 25 points with seven three-pointers to only fall short and lose by a small margin.
