In a huge Sunday of NBL1 North hoops check out how the four games went below:
North:
Women’s
North Gold Coast Seahawks (61) def by Logan Thunder (96)
In a video game-like statline, Logan’s Mikaela Ruef put up 50 points, 25 rebounds, six assists and four steals in the comfortable win over the Seahawks. The Thunder are still undefeated and will be considered a contender come the national final. Off the bench for Logan’s Mackenzie Auton give the team a small boost with 19 points and four rebounds.
North Gold Coast had a team effort, it would have been a close game if not for Ruef as four players scored in double-digits with Erin Riley leading the team with 17 points. Isalys Quinones had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the game.
Southern District Spartans (80) def SW Metro Pirates (58)
The Spartans remain one of the toughest teams to face in the entire NBL1 as they easily handled the Pirates. Southern Districts Kalani Purcell was the star of the game with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.
Two other Spartans scored 15 points or more as the Pirates struggled to score, shooting only 38 percent from the field and only having 13 total assists in the game.
Men’s
North Gold Coast Seahawks (75) def by Logan Thunder (99)
Logan remains one of the best teams in the competition, sitting fifth on the ladder they took down Jordan Hunter’s Seahawks in a huge win to remain in the finals. Hunter played some of his best basketball, scoring 27 points with 18 rebounds and six assists but without Tarumi Wiggness the team could not take down Logan.
North MVP candidate Jeremy Kendle was as electric as ever, scoring 24 points with eight assists shooting 4/6 from the three-point line. Logan won this game from the arc, shooting 46 percent from outside with some of the conference’s best shooters on display.
Southern District Spartans (102) def SW Metro Pirates (71)
In only their third win of the season, the Spartans have pulled off a great win against the Pirates. The Spartan’s Jalen Canty can be credited with the win, with his 30 points and seven rebounds the Spartans won with ease.
SW Metro’s Brendon Teys tried to carry the Pirates with his 18 points, but the Spartans have pulled off three wins in their past four games. They could be a possible late-season upset creator for the teams in the North trying to lock in finals positions, they play the Cairns Marlins next round and the Northside Wizards the round after.
