NBL1 North Recap | Sunday Round 1

On the final day of the opening Round of the 2023 NBL1 North season, we saw triple-doubles and new dynamic duos form.

The WNBL championship starts NBL1 with a BANG 

On Wednesday Kate Gaze was lifting a WNBL championship trophy, on Sunday, she had a triple-double against the Cairns Dolphins. 

With 29 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists, the Townsville Flames’ star offseason signing has given the championship side a solid foundation to build a back-to-back campaign.

The Dolphins’ new dynamic duo

Shaneice Swain was one of the breakout stars in the 21/22 WNBL season with the UC Capitals and she now makes the move from Mackay over to Cairns for the 2023 NBL1 season -- and it started off dangerously. 

Alongside her new co-star Penina Davidson, Swain scored 27 points with four rebounds and two assists while Davidson had a monster 40 points and 21 rebounds in the win over Townsville.

Ipswich’s new dynamic duo 

The Galloway’s are a package deal, and the Ipswich Force will host the dynamic pair of NBL rising stars this 2023 season. 

Alongside Nathan Sobey, they started the season with a win at home against the Red City Roar but the brothers were the standouts. Combining for 50 points and 19 rebounds, it won’t be the last of these two athletic wings creating chaos across the conference.
