The Mackay Meteorettes completed three wins from three games on the road in Round 7 of the NBL1 North Women's competition with a 20-point win on Sunday against the South West Metro Pirates.

The Meteorettes had already beaten the Ipswich Force and Red City Roar to start this weekend on the road and completed the job in their second triple-header away from home in three weeks with Sunday's 95-75 victory against the South West Metro Pirates at Hibiscus Sports Stadium.

Round 7 in the NBL1 North competition began back on Friday night with the Rockhampton Cyclones defeating the Gold Coast Rollers 67-57, the Mackay Meteorettes beating the Ipswich Force 103-77, the Logan Thunder downing the Cairns Dolphins 102-71 and the Brisbane Capitals winning 77-51 against the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.

Then on Saturday night, the Brisbane Capitals backed up to beat the Gold Coast Rollers 71-66 while the Northside Wizards defeated the South West Metro Pirates 80-73, the Mackay Meteorettes won 85-56 against the Red City Roar, the Southern Districts Spartans defeated USC Rip City 104-70, Logan Thunder beat the Townsville Flames 95-77 and the North Gold Coast Seahawks defeating the Rockhampton Cyclones 84-56.

The Round 7 results mean that it's the Logan Thunder still sitting on top of the Women's NBL1 North standings with a perfect 7-0 record.

That has them ahead of the South Districts Spartans who are 7-1 and just in front of the 6-1 Townsville Flames and Northside Wizards. Rounding out the top eight are the Brisbane Capitals (6-3), North Gold Coast Seahawks (5-3), Cairns Dolphins (5-3) and Mackay Meteorettes (6-4).

The Gold Coast Rollers (4-5) sit in ninth position ahead of the Darwin Salties (3-4), Rockhampton Cyclones (3-6), Red City Roar (2-4), USC Rip City (2-6), Sunshine Coast Phoenix (1-8), Ipswich Force (1-8) and South West Metro Pirates (0-7).

SOUTH WEST METRO PIRATES 75 lost to MACKAY METEORETTES 95

The Mackay Meteorettes completed a hat-trick of road victories in Round 7 of the NBL1 North competition with a 20-point win against the South West Metro Pirates on Sunday.

Having already beaten the Ipswich Force and Red City Roar this weekend, the Meteorettes completed the triple-header on Sunday at Hibiscus Sports Stadium up against the Pirates who are still chasing their first victory of the 2022 season.

It did take a while for the Meteorettes to warm up to the task on Sunday morning after playing the previous two nights and the Pirates did score nine straight points of their own during the opening quarter to give them hope of a first win of the season.

However, Mackay managed to work their way on top to lead 26-21 by the end of the first quarter and then to pull away a little further by half-time to lead 46-36.

Seven consecutive points in the third quarter helped the Meteorettes move out to a 20-point advantage and that grew to as much as 22 during the fourth period before Mackey settled on the 95-75 victory.

The win improves the Meteorettes to a 6-4 record on the season having now played six road games over the past three weeks. The Pirates are now 0-7 and still chasing that elusive first victory.

The Meteorettes ended up raking 47 rebounds for the game opposed to 34 for the Pirates while the visitors shot an impressive 54.4 per cent from the field compared with 35.9 per cent for the home team.

Alisia Jenkins top-scored for Mackay with 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals on 8/13 shooting with Meila Goodchild adding 19 points, eight boards and five assists.

Shaneice Swain also added 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, Ellie Collins 11 points, four boards and three assists, Alexa Hart 11 points and six rebounds, and Skye Rees eight points and eight boards.

Steph Bairstow top-scored for South West with 19 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals with Kellie Page adding 12 points and two assists.

Bride Kennedy-Hopoate also had 11 points and three rebounds, Cat McGregor 11 points, four boards and three assists, and Paige Price 11 points and four rebounds.
