Townsville Flames 117 def Cairns Dolphins 55

Townsville Flames lit up Townsville StarFM Stadium with a 117-55 victory over North Queensland rivals Cairns Dolphins on Sunday.

The Flames, who had all 12 players register on the box score, scored at a high clip with 42 of 70 field goals (60%) made including 21 of 36 from deep (58.3%).

Mia Murray had the hot hand from the arc as she made 5 of 7 and scored a game-high 26 points for the Flames.

Townsville’s Jaimee Seebohm (16 points), Stephanie Reid (14 points, 7 assists), and Micaela Cocks (10 points) were also major contributors for the home side.

Cairns had three players in double figures with Leichan Williams (16 points), Sarah Heard (13 points), and Felicity Crotty (12 points).

USC Rip City 78 def by Northside Wizards 89

Northside Wizards picked up a key road victory with an 89-78 defeat of USC Rip City at USC Sports Stadium at on Sunday.

The Wizards, down seven at the main break, blitzed the third quarter with a 21-8 run. Rip City fought back in the last quarter to be within a basket (63-66) with 6.37 remaining but Wizards guard Tiana Mangakahia helped shut the door.

Mangakahia (pictured) scored 20 of her game-high 29 points in the second half. Two three-pointers in quick succession from the guard sparked Northside’s strong finish.

The Wizards offence also had contributions from Courtney Woods (23 points), Regan McCarty (15 points), and Anais Kirvan (11 points).

Rip City was led by Alex Delaney (23 points) and Carlie Smith (16 points, 25 rebounds). The USC forwards were joined by guards Bree Delaney (15 points) and Jasmine Forcadilla (12 points) in double figures.
