Brisbane Capitals 86 def Southern Districts Spartans 70

Brisbane Capitals put in a dominant second-half performance to secure an 86-70 victory over Southern Districts Spartans at Auchenflower Stadium on Saturday night.

The Capitals came out firing after the half-time break to overturn a five-point deficit (41-46) with a 12-3 run to set up their 16-point win.

Brisbane guard Nicholas Stoddart scored 8 of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter.

Capitals centre Ben Volkman tallied a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Stoddart and Volkman were joined by forward Timothy Soong (12 points) and guard Jacob Wilson (10 points) in double digits for the Capitals.

Spartans forward Josh Derksen (21 points) and guard CJ Massingale (17 points) top scored for Southern Districts.

Ipswich Force 72 def by Cairns Marlins 83

Cairns Marlins clinched a road win with an 83-72 victory over Ipswich Force art JBS Stadium on Saturday night.

The Marlins capitalised on a 17-5 second quarter and would not relinquish the lead once they hit the front (29-28) with 4.12 remaining in the first half. The Force will rue 11 of their 25 turnovers coming in the second period.

Cairns guard James Mitchell tallied a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He was joined by forward Alex Loughton with an equal game-high 20 points.

Marlins guards Deba George (15 points), Anthony Fisher (13 points), and Ky Stattmann (11 points) joined their teammates in double figures.

Ethan Robinson top scored for the Force with 17 points, followed by guards Michael Fleming (16 points) and Cameron Webber (10 points).

Northside Wizards 86 def Sunshine Coast Phoenix 83

Northside Wizards came out on top of a see-sawing battle 86-83 over Sunshine Coast Phoenix at South Pine Sports Complex on Saturday night.

The Wizards finished with a 9-0 run in the final three minutes to seal the win, but the Phoenix were not without their chances in a tense battle that had five lead changes in the final quarter.

The Wizards started the last quarter with an 8-2 run to lead 74-69 with 6.09 remaining. The Phoenix hit back with an 8-0 run in just 37 seconds that saw the visitors take the lead (78-77) at the 4.01 mark and extend it to six points (83-77) with 3.24 left on the clock.

The Wizards had five players in double figures, led by guard Logan Kyle (17 points) and forward Atem Atem (16 points). Northside guard Aiden Krause added 14 points and 8 rebounds while guard Jesse Ghee tallied 10 points and 12 assists, and centre Cameron Thew chimed in with 12 points.

Sunshine Coast guard Jamaal Robateau scored a game-high 34 points. He was joined by guard Darnell Robateau (15 points), guard Zane Meehl (13 points), and centre Oscar Cluff (10 points) in double digits.

Red City Roar 83 def South West Metro Pirates 78

Red City Roar used a 9-3 run in the final quarter to outlast south Brisbane rivals South West Metro Pirates 83-78 at The Den on Saturday night.

Tied at 70 with 6.58 remaining, the Roar’s Kobe McDowell-White kicked things off with a three-pointer for the go-ahead basket at the 5.28 mark and the home side extended that lead to six with two minutes left on the clock.

One could forgive the Pirates for thinking they were seeing double as the McDowell-White brothers, Kobe (24 points, including 5 of 12 three-pointers) and Darryl (22 points, including 6 of 11 beyond the arc), led the Roar offence with a combined 46 points.

Darryl also filled up the stats sheet with 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Red City forward Kian Dennis (11 points, 10 rebounds) chimed in with a double-double.

Pirates guard Kai Woodfall, with a game-high 25 points, and forward Jakobe Hunter (18 points) led the offence for the visitors.

Townsville Flames 103 def Rockhampton Cyclones 73

Townsville improved to a 2-0 win-loss record with a 103-73 win over Rockhampton Rockets at Townsville StarFM Stadium on Saturday night.

The Heat took a 17-point lead (48-31) into half time and extended that lead to 38 points (80-42) after the third period, which enabled them to go deeper into the bench in the fourth.

Townsville guard Jalen Patton-Croker put 24 points, 13 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals on the scorer’s sheet.

Heat centre Luca Yates (18 points), forward Josh Spiers (18 points), guard Ethan Betts (12 points), and guard Peter Crawford (12 points) joined Patton-Croker in double figures.

Rockets forward Najeal Young (18 points) top scored for Rockhampton, but the team’s shooting accuracy (27 of 85 field goals made, including only 9 of 43 three-pointers) let them down
