Brisbane Capitals 84 def Rockhampton Cyclones 58

Brisbane Capitals improved their record to 5-4 with an 84-58 victory over Rockhampton Cyclones at Auchenflower Stadium on Saturday night.

Capitals guard Brooke Blair scored a team-high 23 points with 5 of 9 made from downtown. Blair’s hot hand proved a difference as Brisbane made 6 of 19 and Rockhampton hit 5 of 24 three-pointers.

Brisbane forward Anna Cameron (15 points, 12 rebounds) and Blair (23 points and 10 rebounds) tallied double doubles.

Audrey Fuller (11 points), Grace George (10 points), and Stephanie Collins (10 points) were also contributors to the Capitals attack.

Rockhampton’s Lara McSpadden scored a game-high 24 points and 17 rebounds. The Cyclones centre also led her team with five assists and four steals.

Gold Coast Rollers 61 def by Logan Thunder 106

Logan Thunder remain undefeated after a wire-to-wire 106-61 victory over Gold Coast at Carrara Stadium on Saturday night.

Thunder guard Mikaela Cann (pictured) lit up with 11 of 12 field goals, including 6 of 7 from deep, for a game-high 30 points. The sharpshooter also dished up nine assists.

Logan centre Mikaela Ruef was a major  contributor with 15 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, four steals and one block.

Logan’s Ashley Taia (19 points), Carla Drennan (16 points), and Indiah Bowyer (10 points) also had double figures for the Thunder attack.

Gold Coast’s Jessica Petrie (16 points) and Casey Samuels (13 points) were top scorers for the home side.

Ipswich Force 81 def Red City Roar 62

Ipswich Force defeated Red City Roar 81-62 at JBS Stadium, Ipswich on Saturday night.

A near triple double from Amy Lewis (20 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists) helped the Force claim the wire-to-wire victory.

The Force also got major contributions from Georgia Ralph (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Catherine MacGregor (15 points).

Ipswich’s superior shooting efficiency, 38% compared to 26% for the Roar, was a major factor in the home side’s win.

Red City’s Bride Kennedy-Hopoate scored a game-high 27 points and 14 rebounds. Teammate Lorna Shepherd also tallied a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

South West Metro Pirates 80 def Northside Wizards 68

South West Metro Pirates shook off a slow start to beat Northside Wizards 80-68 at Hibiscus Sports Stadium on Saturday night.

Down 41-35 at half time, the Pirates outscored the Wizards 27-15 in the third quarter including a 14-4 run midway through it to lead 62-56 at the final break. They kept momentum and sealed the win with a 10-2 run to start the final quarter.

Pirates centre Amanda Johnson, who scored 11 of the 14 points in the third quarter run, tallied a game-high 32points and 19 rebounds.

South West’s Charmian Mellars also tallied a double double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Steph Bairstow (15 points) and Bree Farley (12 points) also contributed to the Pirates offence.

Northside’s main attack options came from Tiana Mangahaia (23 points), Regan McCarty (15 points), and Courtney Woods (13 points) but the Wizards offence was not as efficient as the home side.

Sunshine Coast Phoenix 62 def by Mackay Meteorettes 83

Mackay began its Sunshine Coast road trip with an 83-62 win over Phoenix at Maroochydore Stadium on Saturday night.

Mackay centre Cayla George scored a game-high 30 points and 15 rebounds for the Meteorettes. The Australian Opal also tallied five assists, three steals and one block.

She was joined in the front court with a strong performance from Chelsea Brook, who contributed 19 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block.

The duo was a threat inside and outside as they combined for six three-pointers (three each) to help Mackay to an 11-5 advantage from beyond the arc.

Phoenix guard Amy Browne provided the most resistance for the home side with 17 points, including 3 of 5 made from deep, and seven rebounds.
