Sunshine Coast Phoenix 47 def by Southern Districts Spartans 93

No NBL1 North team has found a way to lock down the undefeated Southern Districts Spartans thus far and the four-day Brisbane lockdown was no match either.

The Spartans picked up their ninth straight win with a 93-47 road victory over Sunshine Coast Phoenix at Maroochydore Stadium on Sunday.

Spartans forward Kalani Purcell stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Purcell was joined in the frontcourt by Ash Karaitiana, who scored a team-high 16 points including 4 of 9 made from deep, and Nadeen Payne 10 points.

The Southern Districts backcourt of Maddison Rocci (15 points) and Madelyn Willey (14 points) combined for 29 points.

Phoenix guard Amy Browne scored a game-high 18 points and pulled in 18 rebounds for the home side.

The 9-0 Spartans take on Mackay (7-1) on Saturday night while Phoenix (6-3) host Logan (8-0) on Saturday night.

Brisbane Capitals 66 def Ipswich Force 58

Brisbane Capitals closed out the game with a 13-6 run to clinch a 66-58 win over Ipswich Force at Auchenflower Stadium on Sunday.

Tied 30-30 at half-time, Brisbane capitalised on a 9-1 run midway through the third quarter to set up a nine-point lead going into the final quarter. But the Force hit back and were within one possession (52-53) at the 6.48 mark.

Capitals guard Brooke Blair (pictured) scored a team-high 19 points with 3 of 7 made from deep, while guard Grace Champion added 11 points.

Brisbane forward Anna Cameron (19 rebounds) and centre Stephanie Collins (13 rebounds) crashed the boards to give the Capitals a 61-44 advantage.

Ipswich guard Amy Lewis scored a game-high 24 points, while centre Abby Bishop tallied a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.

The Force couldn’t find their range from the arc (3 of 28), outscored 4-3 in three-pointers despite taking more than double Brisbane’s attempts.

The Capitals (5-4) host Mackay (7-1) on Friday night while the Force (2-5) await South West Metro Pirates (4-4) on Sunday.
