MOUNT GAMBIER PIONEERS 82 lost to GEELONG SUPERCATS 83

Jack White warmed to the task nicely and ended up hitting a clutch three-pointer to help the Geelong Supercats to a thrilling one-point win over the Mount Gambier Pioneers on Friday night.

The Pioneers and Supercats locked horns to open Round 5 of the NBL1 South season at The Ice House and it was a tight contest virtually the entire evening.

Mount Gambier was able to open up a narrow 22-18 advantage by the end of the first quarter but Geelong then turned things around in the second term with 26 points to 15 to go into the half-time break with a 44-37 advantage.

The Pioneers turned things back around with 22 points to 17 in the third quarter and Mount Gambier soon led by 10 on the back of an Erik Burdon three-pointer with just over six minutes on the clock.

Geelong had to dig deep and it was a Gabe Hadley triple that brought them back within three points. He hit a couple more down the stretch but for a while at least, the Pioneers continued to have all the answers.

In the end, it was with two minutes remaining that Jack White stepped to knock down the three ball on the pass from Melbourne United teammate Owen Odigie to put the Supercats in front, and they went on to win 83-82.

The result improves Geelong to a 6-1 record on the season while they handed Mount Gambier their first defeat in the process who are now also 6-1.

HOBART CHARGERS 87 lost to RINGWOOD HAWKS 91

The two talented teams locked horns at Kingborough Sports Centre to open Round 5 on Friday night and it was NBL big man Harry Froling who helped to give the Chargers the flying start on their home floor.

With Froling on fire, the Chargers led 29-18 by quarter-time and they put up another 33 points to 22 in the second period. Froling had 24 of them to the half-time break and as a result it was Hobart leading 62-40.

Hobart's lead grew to as much as 24 points early in the third quarter and it would have been easy for the Hawks to turn up the ghost in the start of their double-header this weekend on the Apple Isle.

However, Ringwood dug deep and went on two individual 10-0 scoring runs in the second half, and after being down 24 early in the second half, the Hawks were able to outscore the Chargers the rest of the way 49 points to 21 to end up winning 91-87.

It was a stunning fightback and finish to the game from Ringwood away from home with Tim Guers instrumental in everything they did finishing with 31 points and 12 rebounds while shooting 4/9 from three-point land.
