NBL1 WEST – 2022 WOMEN'S SEASON
ROUND 9 – SUNDAY

MANDURAH MAGIC 94 defeated PERRY LAKES HAWKS 82

Both the Mandurah Magic and Perry Lakes Hawks were coming off defeats earlier in Round 9 of the Women's NBL1 West season leading to an intriguing Sunday afternoon contest.

The Hawks lost to the undefeated Joondalup Wolves by 11 points on Friday night at home while the Magic went down to the defending champion Willetton Tigers by 31 points on the road on Saturday.

That set the stage for Sunday's clash at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre with the Magic coming out on fire determined to make up for that heavy defeat the previous night against the Tigers.

Mandurah opened up a 12-point lead during the first quarter but Perry Lakes responded with a run of seven straight points to limit the damage with the Magic leading 24-19 by the end of one.

The Magic again pulled away to an 11-point lead during the second term but once more the Hawks stayed in touch with Mandurah only leading 49-42 at the half-time interval.

Mandurah appeared to put the game out of reach of Perry Lakes during the third quarter opening up a 22-point advantage at one point, and to still lead 82-62 by three quarter-time.

The Hawks made a charge, though, during the fourth quarter and did make a run of eight straight points, and got within eight points after a Morgan Ballantyne inside finish against her old team with five minutes remaining.

That would be as close as they got, though, with Mandurah able to steady to score the 94-82 victory and improve to a 6-3 record on the season while Perry Lakes slips to 4-6 as a result of the two losses in Round 9.

It was an impressive response to the disappointment of Saturday night for Mandurah with Alex Wittinger leading the charge with 29 points and eight rebounds on 12/18 shooting from the floor.

Sarah Toeaina added 18 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Magic, Carly Boag 13 points and 10 rebounds, Casey Mihovilovich nine points and three rebounds, Aimee Britt eight points and six assists, and Rachel Halleen six points on two triples.

Ruby Vlahov was impressive off the bench in 22 minutes for Perry Lakes putting up 17 points and six rebounds while shooting 3/5 from three-point territory.

Emma Clarke added 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Hawks, Mia Satie 16 points, five boards, three assists and two blocks, and Morgan Ballantyne 10 points and three steals.
