The Brisbane Capitals had a double win Mother's Day Sunday in the NBL1 North with the women storming home to overrun the South West Metro Pirates while the men held out their undermanned opponents.

The Brisbane Capitals had a double win Mother's Day Sunday in the NBL1 North with the women storming home to overrun the South West Metro Pirates while the men held out their undermanned opponents.
Round 5 in the NBL1 North finished on Sunday with the double at Hibiscus Sports Stadium with the Brisbane Capitals women winning 77-73 while also the Brisbane men defeated the South West Metro Pirates 76-71.

South West Metro Pirates (73) lost to Brisbane Capitals (77)
The Brisbane Capitals stormed back with a massive last quarter to overcome a 15-point deficit and make it consecutive NBL1 North wins by beating the South West Metro Pirates 77-73.
Both teams were making their only appearances of Round 5 in the NBL1 North with South West Metro at home at Hibiscus Sports Stadium attempting to bounce back from last week's loss to Rockhampton.
Brisbane was trying to back up its win over the Southern Districts Spartans as well but it was the Pirates on fire from the outset to already be leading 24-12 by the end of the first quarter.
The lead for South West Metro got out to as much as 13 points as well in the second quarter before they went into the half-time break leading 38-29.
That lead did get out to as far as 15 points as well in the third period for the Pirates and still at three quarter-time it was the home team in control 61-50.
The gauntlet had been thrown down to the Capitals if they wanted to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season and they were up to the challenge producing a massive final quarter.
The Caps ended up outscoring the Pirates 27 points to 12 in the last period to finally end up going ahead thanks to a Tyla King-Paul three-pointer with four minutes to go.
From there Brisbane went on to score the four-point victory to improve to a 3-4 record on the season with Georgia Dale finishing with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Megan Mullings also ended up with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocks while Lil Dart contributed 13 points and four boards, Hannah Hank 10 points, 10 rebounds and four steals, and Hannah Young pulled down 10 boards.
Leah Scott had a massive afternoon despite the eventual loss for South West Metro producing 35 points, 16 rebounds and five assists on the back of shooting 13/24 from the field, 3/5 from downtown and 6/9 from the foul line.
Taya Hanson added 17 points and four rebounds, and Jasmin Howe 16 points, four assists and three boards.
The Pirates remain at home to host the Southern Districts Spartans next Saturday while Brisbane doesn’t play until being away to the Sunshine Coast Phoenix next Sunday.

The Brisbane Capitals held out the fast finishing yet shorthanded South West Metro Pirates for the 76-71 Mother's Day Sunday victory on the road.
Brisbane arrived at Hibiscus Sports Stadium looking to back up their last up win over the Southern Districts Spartans while the Pirates came into the match up after losing to the Rockhampton Rockets.
South West Metro came into the game without Lachlan Anderson and Lamar Patterson with Brisbane able to take advantage and open up a 10-point lead already by quarter-time.
The Capitals continued to build that lead out to as much as 16 points in the second quarter as well before going into half-time on top 37-32.
Brisbane were back out to a double-figure advantage for much of the second half but South West Metro kept on fighting and did make it a four-point game with just under a minute to play to keep things interesting.
In the end, free-throws from Sam McDaniel, Isaih Tueta and Gabe Hadley was enough for the Capitals to hold on for the five-point victory and to improve to a 3-4 record on the season as a result.
Tueta ended up top-scoring in the win for Brisbane with 17 points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals while McDaniel added 16 points, five boards, three assists and three steals.
His Brisbane Bullets teammate Hadley also had 15 points, five rebounds and three assists with Geordan Papacostas contributing 12 points, five boards and three assists, and Cameron Thew six points and nine rebounds.
It was a competitive showing from the shorthanded South West Metro with Roman Siulepa putting up 26 points, 15 rebounds and two assists with 9/12 free-throw shooting.
Kai Woodfall added 16 points and two steals, Brendan Teys 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals, and Ben Volkman 10 points, 10 boards and four assists.
The Pirates remain at home to host the Southern Districts Spartans next Saturday while Brisbane doesn’t play until being away to the Sunshine Coast Phoenix next Sunday.
