Spartans announce three NBL1 signings

The Southern Districts Spartans have announced a trio of NBL1 North signings with Josh Derksen, Jake Allen (men) and Maddy Willey (women) committing to the club.

Derksen returns to the Spartans after a consistent 2020 season in the QSL where he averaged 9.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. His physical play and tenacious energy are expected to be an asset to Southern Districts during the season.

The dynamic Allen joined the Spartans in 2019 and has since been a steady part of the squad. An injury led to him missing most of the 2020 season, but Allen has been working hard to make 2021 his best season yet. His crafty finishing and sophisticated ball-handling will be an essential part of Southern Districts’ season.

Willey is coming off a career-best year in 2020 where she averaged 20.23 points, 4.92 rebounds and 5.15 assists, helping the Spartans reach the QSL Division 1 Grand Final. Her superior basketball IQ and tremendous leadership abilities will be a key piece to Southern Districts’ season.
