The Nunawading Spectres have re-signed Andrew Steel, the club officially announcing the Australian FIBA3x3 star Wednesday morning.
In 2019 Steel appeared in just 12 games for the Spectres, a combination of injury and national 3×3 commitments limiting his time on court with his Nunawading teammates. He did return 7.1 points and 3.9 rebounds helping his team march towards the inaugural NBL1 championship.
“It’s always fantastic when Nunawading juniors are able to establish themselves as core pieces of the senior program,” Spectres coach Andrew Cutler said.
“We are excited to have Steelo back at Nunawading for the 2021 NBL1 South season.
“Steelo’s experience at NBL1 level, ability to space the floor and capacity to defend multiple positions makes him a really valuable player. He’ll be a big part of what we do.”
Steel will likely be required to take a greater leadership role with the next wave of Nunawading players, his skill and experience both domestically and now abroad position him well to mentor deep down the Spectres bench.
“I’m thrilled to be back for another year,” Steel said.
“I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of the Nunawading Spectres throughout my juniors and now approaching 200 games in the seniors – which is something that I’m very grateful for.
“The year off has recharged the batteries and all the guys are looking very motivated to defend the title this year.”
