The Townsville Heat have locked in one of their most promising home grown talents with Joshua Spiers committing to the Heat for the 2021 NBL1 North Season.
Spiers will return to Townsville’s senior men’s team for the first time since helping the Heat to a QBL title in 2017 after away stints with Ipswich and a visit to Rockhampton that was cut short because of the cancellation of the 2020 season.
“I am really looking forward to being back home and playing in front of family and friends and to be wearing a heat jersey again,” Spiers said.
“We’ve got some veteran guys who have been around the league for a long time and some fresh young men coming through who I’m looking forward to playing with.”
Spiers was one of the first targets set by coach Rodney Anderson as he looked to secure our home grown talent first where possible.
“I’m really excited to have Josh back with us this year after being a part of our championship season in 2017. He was chased heavily by other clubs so it’s a testament to his commitment to our program and the local association that he has chosen to come home to play this year,” Anderson said.
“We have had a big focus on giving our local talent some great experience this year and Josh was one of the first names I had on my list of local recruits.
“Josh brings a high level of scoring and experience to our group so I will be looking to him to be one of our leading scorers and a guy I’ll be relying on him every game to step up for us and put the team on his back at the offensive end of the floor.”
