The Launceston Tornadoes have announced Teyla Evans will play for the club in the 2021 NBL1 South season.
Evans has experience over a number of leagues including the WNBL, SEABL, QBL and Big V and will bring extra height to the Tornadoes squad this season.
Evans, 25, has previously played for Sandringham and Albury in the SEABL (now NBL1 South) between 2014-2016 and was a development player for the Dandenong Rangers WNBL team in 2014-15.
Evans returned to Queensland and played in the QBL for Cairns and Rockhampton in 2017 and 2018. She signed with Hume City in the Big V in 2019 where she averaged 11.15 points and 6.75 rebounds.
Launceston head coach Sarah Veale is excited the impact Evans will have.
“Teyla is a versatile and talented player, an athletic scorer that brings an array of skills to the basketball court,” Veale said.
“She has already packed plenty of elite basketball experience in her young age with experience at WNBL level along with SEABL and QBL State leagues in the last couple of years.
“Teyla’s physical attributes allow her to play across a variety positions, but it is her scoring ability that we look forward to seeing this season.
“She possesses a potent perimeter game and her size allows her to take advantage of bigger opponents inside the paint. The connection of Teyla and Keely (Froling) will provide a multi-dimensional combination in our front court this season.”
Having arrived in Launceston over the weekend Evans said: “I am super excited to play for Launceston. Obviously when coming into a new team the main goal is getting that Championship at the end of the season. So, with the players Sarah had already signed it was an easy decision to make and I am confident in what we can achieve.
“On top of that, I want to give myself the best opportunity to get into the WNBL and I think the Tornadoes program, the players and coaches around me will be a big contributing factor for me to get there.
“I believe that I will bring leadership to the team on and off the court and be a scoring threat as well as a solid defender.”
Evans has arrived in Launceston early to train with the squad and joins already announced players Keely Froling and Mariah Payne as new additions to the Tornadoes playing roster preparing for the 2021 NBL1 season.
Evans will also play with the Devonport Warriors in the NWBU competition, where Tornadoes assistant coach Tony Webb is the head coach.
Launceston continues to speak with other potential players to join the team this season and expect to make further announcements soon.
