The NBL1's PLAY4BCNA Pink Round is an important time of year for many people in and around the competition.
The fundraising round is a particularly personal one for the Brisbane Captial's Anthony Kopcikas. In an interview with the Pick and Roll, he explained how breast cancer has affected his family.
“My sister-in-law Lauren had breast cancer at 25 years of age and she had metastasised once and got through that and then it came back when she was 35 – she passed away in 2019," Kopcikas said.
“It’s pretty personal with that sort of connection and it's an emotional time for you. It's tough as it brings up all the emotions even though it feels so distant now – but it’s been only less than four years and feels like it's been forever but not very long at the same time.”

Kopcikas grew his hair out to shave it for charity and auctioned off a singed Brisbane Bullets jersey to help raise funds for multiple organisations.
He is especially exticed for this season's Pink Round as clubs from across the NBL1 Nprth and the country are getting more involved in something he has been invested in for some time.
“I'm like super excited that the other teams and other associations are getting involved in raising some money for an awareness," he said.
"For a charity like this - that means so much to me.”
