Wilcher to lead Rockets in 2021 season

The Rockhampton Rockets have signed point guard Josh Wilcher for the 2021 NBL1 North season. 

Wilcher is a familiar face in Queensland, having played in two championship-winning teams with Townsville in 2017 and 2018. 

Head coach Neal Tweedy said that the Rockets had been chasing Wilcher to lead the team in 2021 for a while. 

"We reached out to Josh extremely early in the piece as we wanted a proven point guard to lead the Rockets during the season and we are very happy that Josh has decided to call Rockhampton home for the 2021 season," he said.

"His ability to facilitate the team offensively and make his own plays on the offensive end is crucial to the Rockets' chances this season." 

Wilcher is currently playing in the British Basketball League and taking part in playoffs in that league. 

He will be landing in Rockhampton in mid to late May, which he is looking forward to doing. 

"I'm really excited to be joining Rockhampton for this upcoming season," Wilcher said.

"The club has a great history with some fantastic success in their past so I'm looking forward to joining my teammates to try and bring another championship to Rockhampton.

"I can't wait to get over there and get started."
