After a successful 2020 WNBL season with the Townsville Fire, Steph Reid will remain in Townsville for the 2021 NBL1 North season, signing with the Flames.
Reid will be coached by Shannon Seebohm at the Flames, the same coach she had at the Fire. She used a strong 2019 NBL1 season as a springboard into her WNBL career.
Playing for the Frankston Blues in 2019, Reid averaged 21.6 points and 6.3 assists per game, which included a 50-point performance against the Launceston Tornadoes. Reid then played for the Southside Flyers in the 2019/20 WNBL season, before joining Townsville for the hub condensed 2020 campaign.
Reid provided strong support backing up star Shyla Heal with the Fire while amassing 6.3 points per game as Townsville made a run to the Grand Final.
“I’m really excited to get back up to Townsville and be a part of the Flames. I’ve heard really good things about the club and I’m even more excited to get to play under Shannon for another season,” Reid said via The Townsville Bulletin.
“Townsville became like home to me in the short WNBL season so I can’t wait to get back and get more involved in the Townsville basketball community.”
The Flames’ NBL1 North season tips off on Friday May 14 against the Mackay Meteorettes.
“Coming off the back of a breakout WNBL campaign with the Townsville Fire, I think she is going to be one of the most exciting players in the NBL1 North competition,” Seebohm said.
“She is obviously a very talented scorer and defender but most importantly a great person and teammate.
“I know she is passionate about getting out into the basketball community in Townsville and is sure to be a great role model for all of the young girls and boys playing junior basketball here.”
