The Rockingham Flames women’s team are riding a three-game winning streak, something that could kickstart their season according to NBL1 West expert Greg Hire.
The Flames had a slow start to the campaign, having lost their first three games, before a spark was re-ignited to even the ledger at 3-3.
With the three-game winning streak, the Flames have moved up the ladder to eighth place.
“We saw the Flames go 2-0 (last weekend) and they were expected to do that. They needed to beat Lakeside Lightning and they did that,” Hire said on the latest episode of The NBL1 Show.
“And then on Saturday night they went against the Goldfields Giants and won that.”
Hire heaped praise on coaches Rob Beveridge and Tom Knowles for the Flames’ ability to bounce back after the slow start.
“They’ve got an incredible coaching staff led by [Tom] Knowles. But Rob Beveridge, he’s going to be the shadow lurking over that group because he’s an incredible coach, if not one of the best coaches we have in Australia,” Hire said.
Tayah Burrows showcased her versatility in their two wins last week. Burrows top-scored in their most recent win over the Giants with 21 points.
Earlier in the round, the Flames’ guard recorded the most rebounds on the team against Lakeside with 12.
“Tayah Burrows, sensational, she’s going to be an interesting talking point in this offseason. Whether she re-joins the WNBL with the Perth Lynx or ventures over East,” Hire said.
“She’s doing herself wonders, she needs to have the ball in her hands a little bit more and play off of that confidence.
“Credit to Tayah, she played with plenty of energy and enthusiasm as what she’s expected to do...really pleasing to see her having a really dominant weekend.”
The Flames will take on the fourth on the ladder Mandurah Magic tonight at 6:30pm AWST. Watch the game live and free on the NBL1 Website and NBL1 App.
