Neema Kazemi's State League basketball career got off to a winning start when he won a championship with the Perth Redbacks in his first season, which was 2017.
After a college stint in the US, Kazemi returned to the Redbacks in 2020 for the shortened West Coast Classic season and played some strong minutes.
He also played D-League and was named in All-Star in that competition as well as being named the Perth D-League Men's MVP for 2020.
For Kazemi, it was leadership and history that saw him re-commit.
"The leadership at the club was a huge attraction for me, especially getting to play with Joel Wagner as captain," he said.
"It's also really appealing to play with a club which has such a long and strong history that includes players like Luc Longley and Andrew Vlahov."
There's one thing in particular that Kazemi is looking forward to this season.
"I'm particularly looking forward to the style of basketball we're going to play," he said.
"We're a very long and fast team and will be pushing the ball quite a bit.
"This is going to be exciting and fun to be a part of."
Head coach CJ Jackson is very excited to have Kazemi re-signed for 2021.
"I have known Neema since U14s ar the Hawks, so I know exactly what kind of player I'm getting with him," he said.
"He was our D-League MVP last year and in this NBL1 pre-season, he has come on in leaps and bounds.
"I love the kid and just want to see how much he can develop.
"Like the other young players in the team, he will need to be patient with the opportunities, but I know when they come, he will take the chance to shine."
Perth NBL1 Director Nathan Barns loves what Kazemi brings to the team.
"Neema epitomises Redback culture," he said.
"He works hard and gives 100% to every training session, scrimmage and match.
"He is a positive influence around the group and I am encouraged by his early-season form.
"It really does look like Neema has taken his basketball to a new level for this upcoming NBL1 season."
