The Frankston Blues have announced the return of Alister Macdonald for the upcoming NBL1 South Season.
Following the cancellation of the 2020 NBL1 South Season, Macdonald’s two-year commitment has been rolled over to begin this upcoming season.
The former NBL development player (Melbourne Tigers) averaged 7.5 points in just 19 minutes per game in the inaugural NBL1 season.
Head Coach Andrew Harms spoke about Macdonald’s return and the leadership example he sets.
“We are pumped Al is returning once again to represent the club. He is a former Frankston Blues junior and provides a fantastic example of what can be achieved with hard work and dedication to the game,” Harms said.
“Al will really drive our second unit and as per previous years provide leadership and guidance to our younger players.
“We feel our style of play this year is geared towards Al’s strengths and he will flourish playing in the system.
“Throughout his career, he has scored in bunches and gets to the free-throw line and we feel this will be no different in 2021.
“We look forward to Al positively impacting the club on and off the floor for years to come.”
Macdonald spoke about his return to the club and the return of basketball.
“I think I speak for the wider basketball community in saying we can’t wait for basketball to return in 2021,” he said.
“It’s been a difficult period for everyone and the return of basketball is an exciting feeling.
“The support the playing group has been given from the club throughout COVID has been fantastic; resources for training plans, workout equipment, and recently on-court skills work has meant we have been able to get to work before pre-season and gear up for a successful year ahead.
“I believe there is a lot of confidence within our club to once again be successful, not only for this year but for the coming seasons and I can’t wait to be apart of the Blues community moving forward.”
