There were big wins for the Southern Tigers, Forestville Eagles, South Adelaide Panthers and West Adelaide Bearcats on Saturday night while the Sturt Sabres won a tight one over the Norwood Flames.

There were five matches across the NBL1 Central Women's competition on Saturday night to open Round 6 of the 2022 season.

It was a big win for Southern Tigers on Saturday night beating Central Districts at STARplex 86-59.

Morgan Yaeger delivered a big performance for the Tigers with 28 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Raynisha Washington had 18 points for the Lions.

The Forestville Eagles also came away with a big road win over the Eastern Mavericks 89-53 at St Francis de Sales Community Sports Centre.

Jessica Simons had 21 points for the Eagles and Sam Simons 20 with Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu top-scoring for the Mavericks with 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals.

The South Adelaide Panthers enjoyed their night at home as well with the 105-66 victory against the Woodville Warriors at Marion Basketball Stadium.

Olivia Levicki put up 26 points and 15 rebounds for South Adelaide, and Jade Johnson 25 points with Emily Bartsch top-scoring for Woodville with 12 points.

It was a tighter affair at Springbank Secondary College with the Sturt Sabres finishing strongly to beat the Norwood Flames 65-57.

Mikayla Williams finished with 18 points and 20 rebounds for Sturt with Ally Wilson and Brooke Basham scoring 19 points apiece for the Flames.

The West Adelaide Bearcats delivered a strong performance to beat the North Adelaide Rockets 84-62 at Port Adelaide Recreation Centre.

Jasmin Fejo led the charge for West Adelaide with 23 points and seven assists while Samantha Defrancesco delivered 22 points for North Adelaide.

Round 6 in the NBL1 Central Women's competition will now rap up on Sunday afternoon at Springbank Secondary College between the Sturt Sabres and Forestville Eagles.

CENTRAL DISTRICT LIONS 59 lost to SOUTHERN TIGERS 86

The Southern Tigers returned to the winner's list on Saturday night with an impressive road win against the Central District Lions.

The Tigers headed to STARplex looking to bounce back from last week's narrow loss to the Sturt Sabres and started impressively with 23 points to 17 in the opening quarter.

They added another 23 points to 12 in the second period to head into the half-time break leading 46-29.

After a tightly contested third quarter, the Tigers then completed the deal with another 22 points to 11 in the fourth quarter to end up winning 86-59.

The major difference between the two teams was the Tiers shooting 45.1 per cent from the field opposed to the 33.3 per cent from the Lions.

Fresh off her WNBL season at the Sydney Uni Flames, Morgan Yaeger starred in the win for the Tigers with 28 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Demi Skinner added 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists, Mollie McKendrick 20 points, eight boards and six assists, and Jemma Thacker eight points and seven rebounds.

Raynisha Washington put up 18 points and nine rebounds for Centrals with Casey Samuels contributing 14 points and seven boards, and Tylar Bennett 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.

 

EASTERN MAVERICKS 53 lost to FORESTVILLE EAGLES 89

The Forestville Eagles made it three wins from five matches so far this season with a strong performance on the road to beat the Eastern Mavericks on Saturday.

The Eagles landed at St Francis de Sales Community Sports Centre and started solidly with 19 points in the first quarter before opening up a handy 42-27 lead by the half-time break on the back of 23 points to 13 in the second period.

Forestville was then able to close out the contest with 31 points to 11 in the final stanza to win 89-53 and improve to 3-2 on the season while the Mavericks are now 1-4.

While the Eagles did pull down 12 extra rebounds than the Mavs and took 13 more shots, it was the clip they shot at that was the main difference. Forestville went at 45.6 per cent from the floor and 9/23 from three-point land with the Mavericks managing 28.8 per cent overall and 3/12 from deep.

Jessica Simons finished with 21 points and four assists for Forestville while nailing 5/7 from downtown with Sam Simons delivering 20 points, six assists, four boards and three steals on 10/16 shooting.

Isabella Stratford added 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists with Jordyn Freer contributing nine points, and Monica Hanna nine points and five boards.

Brigitte Lefebvre-Okankwu finished the evening with 16 points, 12 rebounds and seven steals for the Mavericks with Olivia Bradley 13 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Oksana Gouchie-Provencher added 11 points and nine rebounds, and Chloe Dumesny contributed nine points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.

 

SOUTH ADELAIDE PANTHERS 105 defeated WOODVILLE WARRIORS 66

It was a big win at home for the South Adelaide Panthers on Saturday night against the Woodville Warriors.

The Panthers took their undefeated record into the game on Saturday night at Marion Basketball Stadium and started impressively against Woodville with 25 points to 10 in the opening quarter.

The home team put up another 31 points in the second quarter to see them take a 56-33 lead into the half-time break.

They went on with the job in the second half too outscoring the Warriors 49 points to 33 to come away with the 105-66 win to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season.

Olivia Levicki delivered 26 points and 15 rebounds for the Panthers with Jade Johnson hitting 3/6 from downtown on her way to 25 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Ashleigh Spencer added 21 points and seven rebounds for South Adelaide with Jordan Smith contributing eight points, and Hannah Stewart seven.

Emily Bartsch top-scored with 12 points for Woodville to go with five rebounds and three steals with Regan Turnour-McCarty adding 11 points, nine boards and five assists, Deanna Troia 11 points, two assists and two steals, and Emily Winter 10 points and 11 rebounds.

 

STURT SABRES 65 defeated NORWOOD FLAMES 57

The close game of the evening took place at Springbank Secondary College between the Sturt Sabres and Norwood Flames.

After scores were locked at 17-17 at quarter-time, the Sabres pulled away on their home floor in the second quarter with 19 points to 11 to head into half-time leading 36-28.

However, the Flames were able to fire back in the third quarter but then after scores were level again early in the fourth, it was the Sabres that kicked away with three triples in short time from Zoe Walker-Roberts and a pair from Meg Prosser.

A Brooke Basham was able to bring the Flames back within three but that would be as close as they'd get down the stretch with Sturt going on to win 65-57 to improve to a perfect 5-0 on the season while the Flames are now 2-3.

Mikayla Williams ended top-scoring for Sturt with 18 points and 20 rebounds with Kayla Matthews contributing 14 points, three assists and three steals.

Meg Prosser added eight points and four rebounds for the Sabres, and Zoe Walker-Roberts eight points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Ally Wilson might not have shot the ball how she would have hoped for Norwood going 5/18 from the floor and 2/12 from downtown, but still had a solid overall night with 19 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Brooke Basham added 19 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals with Genna Anderson contributing eight points and nine boards while Alek Akuen pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out three assists.

 

WEST ADELAIDE BEARCATS 84 defeated NORTH ADELAIDE ROCKETS 62

The North Adelaide Rockets might have started well on Saturday night but the West Adelaide Bearcats eventually overwhelmed them continue their strong start to the season.

The Rockets headed to Port Adelaide Recreation Centre on Saturday night and started well with 17 points to 14 in the first quarter, but the Bearcats warmed to the task in the second to put up 21 points to seven and go into half-time leading 35-24.

North Adelaide was able to bounce back and produce an impressive third quarter with 29 points, but again West Adelaide responded with 22 points to nine in the fourth to come away with the 84-62 victory.

The result improved the Bearcats to 4-2 on the season while the Rockets fall to 1-4 with the defeat.

West Adelaide ended up collecting 55 rebounds to 40 from North Adelaide including 20 at the offensive end to 11 while they also forced the Rockets in 23 turnovers.

Jasmin Fejo put up 23 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two blocked shots for West Adelaide with Keeley Pearce adding 18 points, Bethany Heaft 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and Michaela Lappin nine points, four boards, three assists and three steals.

Samantha Defrancesco finished with 22 points, four rebounds and four steals for North Adelaide on the back of hitting 4/6 from beyond the arc. Peyton Taylor added 16 points, nine rebounds, six steals and two assists.
