Shaneice Swain led the Cairns Dolphins to a Friday night NBL1 North victory over the Mackay Meteorettes while Ky Stattmann and Curt Ah Wang combined to help the Marlins hand the Meteors a third successive loss.

It was an impressive night from both Cairns teams to open Round 7 of the NBL1 North starting with the Dolphins beating the Mackay Meteorettes 86-64. The Marlins then defeated the Meteors 96-89.

Swain's all-round game leads Dolphins over Meteorettes
With Shaneice Swain outstanding and threatening a triple-double, the Cairns Dolphins proved too strong for the Mackay Meteors on Friday night, prevailing 86-64.
Cairns came into the clash on a three-game losing streak ahead of hosting the Meteorettes at Early Settler Stadium, and it was a tight contest until the second quarter when the Dolphins began to pull away.

Cairns put up 23 points to 14 from Mackay in the second quarter to go into the half-time break with a 42-32 advantage.
Mackay was able to stick with it and remain competitive with Cairns through the third quarter, but again in the fourth period the Dolphins pulled away on their home floor with another 26 points to 14 to claim the 22-point victory.
The result improves the Dolphins to a 4-5 record with their three-game losing run coming to an end while the Meteorettes slip to 2-6.
There were plenty of standout performers in the win for Cairns starting with WNBA draftee Shaneice Swain who finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists, three steals and two blocks in a brilliant all-round performance.
She had plenty of help too with Leichan Williams contributing 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, Taylor Mole 16 points, 16 boards and three assists, Teyahna Bond 14 points, four assists and two steals, and Myra Donkin nine points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Davida Dale ended up with 14 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals for Mackay with Brittany Reeves contributing 14 points and six boards, and Charli Bliss eight points and nine rebounds.

Marlins hand Meteors third successive defeat
Despite another big performance from Isaac White, the Mackay Meteors fell to a third successive NBL1 North loss with Ky Stattmann leading the Cairns Marlins to the 96-89 victory.
Mackay opened the season on fire winning its first five matches with new Brisbane Bullets NBL signing White leading the charge.

But the Meteors dropped their past two at home to the Pirates and Rollers leaving them arriving in Cairns on Friday night looking to bounce back and return to the winner's list.
Cairns also came into the game having lost four of its past five matches so both teams were hungry for a win, and it was the Marlins on their home floor who got on top early and were able to build on that.
Cairns led 21-17 by the end of the opening quarter before the home team stretched that advantage to 50-39 by the half-time break.
The Marlins pushed their lead out to 20 points during the third quarter and while the Meteors kept fighting and got the final margin back to seven, Cairns held firm for the important victory.
The win improves the Marlins to a 4-5 record on the season while the Meteors have now lost three straight after winning their first five.
Ky Stattmann finished the night with 30 points and eight rebounds in the win for Cairns while Curt Ah Wang delivered 24 points on 7/9 three-point shooting.
Jonah Antonio added 15 points and five rebounds, Tad Dufelmeier 15 points, 11 assists and four boards, and Aron Farmer six points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots.
Isaac White put up another 35 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for Mackay with Tyler Williams contributing 18 points, seven boards, three assists and two steals, and Shane Temara 13 points and three rebounds.
