NBL1 SOUTH – 2022 MEN'S SEASON
ROUND 12 – FRIDAY NIGHT

HOBART CHARGERS 100 defeated DIAMOND VALLEY EAGLES 71

The Hobart Chargers maintained their hold on top spot in the NBL1 South with another strong performance at home on Friday night against the Diamond Valley Eagles.

The Chargers played host to the Eagles at Kingborough Sports Centre and with DJ Vasiljevic plying his talents at NBA Summer League, it was always going to be a big ask for Diamond Valley against the ladder leaders.

That proved the case early on with Ole Angerstein having a couple of big moments above the rim at either end and then Harry Froling catching fire as Hobart opened up an 11-point lead by quarter-time.

Another 9-0 run during the second term saw that Chargers advantage grow to 18 points and they were up 56-38 by the half-time break.

Hobart again scored 11 straight points during the third period to see their advantage grow to 27 points. It got out to 33 during the fourth term and they ended up winning 100-71.

The victory maintains the Chargers' hold on top spot at 13-3 while Diamond Valley slips to 7-9 following the defeat.

Hobart finished up collecting 53 rebounds to 37 for the night while shooting 50.7 per cent from the floor opposed to 34.7 and getting to the foul line 28 times to 14.

Harry Froling continued his MVP contending form for the Chargers ahead of his NBL return to the Brisbane Bullets with another 29 points and 15 rebounds on shooting 11/20 from the floor, 4/10 from deep and 3/5 from the foul line.

Jacob Richards added 16 points, four rebounds and four assists on 6/6 shooting while Jamar Sandifer contributed 12 points and four boards, Jarred Bairstow 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Ole Angerstein 10 points and three boards.

Ngor Manyang is enjoying his new life in the NBL1 South despite the loss for Diamond Valley with the former championship winner out west with the Warwick Senators delivering 14 points including hitting 3/6 from three-point territory.

Mark Scherf added nine points and three rebounds, Joel Capetola nine points, three boards and three assists, Ryan Bowkett eight points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals, and Erik Kafritsas eight points and four boards.

NORTH WEST TASMANIA THUNDER 50 lost to KNOX RAIDERS 69

Adam Gibson made his return to Launceston and left a winner as the Knox Raiders defeated the North West Tasmania Thunder by 19 points on Friday night.

Gibson might have never got to realise his dream of playing for a Tasmanian team during his glittering 460-game NBL career that he officially called time on earlier this year, but coming back to his home state with the Raiders for some NBL1 action is always a treat.

He came with his Raiders to take on the Thunder at Elphin Sports Stadium on Friday night and it was the home team who were narrowly leading 16-14 by the end of the first quarter.

Knox was able to work their way on top during the second term but it remained a tight battle and the visitors were only narrowly leading 34-32 by the half-time interval.

It still remained close during the third quarter and by the end of three, the Raiders were only clinging to a five-point lead.

However, the visitors pulled away during the fourth quarter going on a 10-0 run at one point and leading by 19 points at the final buzzer with the 69-50 victory.

Holding a team featuring Tasmania JackJumpers NBL players Matt Kenyon, Fabijan Krslovic and Sean Macdonald to 50 points for the night and 30.8 shooting, and four free-throws was quite the impressive defensive feat from the Raiders.

The victory improves Knox to a 9-7 record on the season to start their weekend on the Apple Isle while North West are now 7-9 following the defeat.

South East Melbourne Phoenix 274-game NBL veteran Reuben Te Rangi ended up with 16 points, four rebounds and two assists in the win for the Raiders while Bailey Nunn contributed 13 points on 6/9 shooting.

Austin Shelley added 11 points for Knox, Deng Acouth 10 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots, and Adam Gibson six points, two rebounds, and two assists along with some stifling defence on his return home.

Fabijan Krslovic battled hard all evening for the Thunder to end up with 15 points, 18 rebounds and three assists while Joe Chilcott added 14 points and five rebounds, and Sean Macdonald nine points and three assists.
