NBL1 SOUTH – 2022 MEN'S SEASON
ROUND 14 – FRIDAY NIGHT

HOBART CHARGERS 93 defeated WAVERLEY FALCONS 66

The Waverley Falcons shot out of the blocks as they fight for their playoff lives and attempted to knock off the league-leaders on Saturday night, but the Hobart Chargers soon steadied for the eventual 27-point victory.

Waverley arrived with a significant task ahead of them up against Hobart at Kingborough Sports Centre on Friday night to open Round 14 in the NBL1 South as the race for playoff positions heats up.

However, the Falcons started strongly racing to a 12-4 lead on the back of a couple of nice finishes from Durrell McDonald and then capped off by a three ball from Bennie Lewis, who would end up being sent to the locker room early after receiving a second technical foul in the third quarter.

The Chargers then also lost Harry Froling briefly to a knock he copped to his nose that bled ferociously, and the Falcons maintained their early advantage to still be on top 22-15 by quarter-time.

Their lead was again back out to 10 points early in the second quarter but the Chargers worked their way back into the contest including going on a 7-0 run to end up cutting Waverley's half-time lead to 40-38.

The Chargers then began to take over in the third quarter outscoring the Falcons 25 points to 14, and then kept it going in the fourth with 30 more points to 12.

Despite how competitive Waverley was especially in the first half, Hobart asserted their dominance for the eventual 93-66 victory to maintain their hold on top spot in the NBL1 South with a 16-4 record with two rounds remaining.

The Falcons are now 9-9 following the defeat to sit in 10th position as they attempt to chase down eight spot currently held by the 9-8 Ballarat Miners.

Despite his early hiccup, Harry Froling delivered another 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists for Hobart with Jacob Richards contributing 19 points and five boards while knocking down 3/5 from three-point range.

Jarred Bairstow also had 16 points and nine rebounds, Sam McDaniel 14 points and four boards, and Jamar Sandifer seven points, five rebounds and three steals.

Tristan Forsyth ended the night with 18 points and five rebounds for Waverley on 6/7 shooting from the floor and 6/7 from the foul line.

Durrell McDonald added 17 points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Falcons, Jake Heath 13 points on 3/4 shooting from deep, and Simon Conn eight points.
