Sandringham Sabres 79 def by Waverley Falcons 104
The Sandringham Sabres have lost its 10th consecutive game, falling at home to an in-form Waverley Falcons side.
Following a back and forth start to the contest, the Falcons took control, ending the quarter with an eight-point advantage.
Daniel Dillon was active early for Waverley, scoring seven of his 17 points across the final five minutes of the opening term.
Playing from behind, Sandringham fought hard to push the Falcons, continually chipping away at the lead.
Sam McDaniel tried his best on debut for the Sabres, scoring 18 points and grabbing five rebounds, however struggled in his attempts to reduce the Falcons’ lead, finishing the contest as a game-worst -32 in plus/minus.
After seeing its lead cut to as small as four points in the second quarter, Waverley appeared to wake up, pushing the margin back out to 11 points before half time and running away with the victory over the final two quarters.
It was a whole team effort for the Falcons, with all five starters scoring in double figures.
Jake Heath led the way, tallying 21 points in the winning effort.
The win is Waverley’s fifth in its last six games, with the only loss in that span coming against Knox by one point.
