Nunawading Spectres 83 def Sandringham Sabres 70
The Nunawading Spectres have secured their first win of the season, knocking off the undefeated Sandringham Spectres at home on Sunday afternoon.
It was a tight first half, with both sides trading leads before Sandringham took control going into half time.
The Sabres entered the main break with a six-point lead, thanks in part to a strong showing from Jenna O’Hea, who continued her hot start to the season, tallying 27 points and eight rebounds.
In the second half, the Spectres showed their resilience, chipping away at the deficit in the third term before ultimately pulling away for the 13-point victory in the final quarter.
Only five players scored for Nunawading in the contest, however each scored in double-digits, with Izzy Wright and Louise Brown leading the way (21 points and 20 points respectively).
Waverley Falcons 74 def Diamond Valley Eagles 66
The Waverley Falcons have handed the Diamond Valley Hawks their third straight loss to start the new NBL1 season.
Apart from a slight back and forth after the opening tip, the Falcons controlled the entire game, winning each of the first three quarters.
Aneta Bandilovska led the way for Waverley, scoring 20 points in an all-around attacking effort.
Trailing 46-66 going into the final term, the Eagles tried their best to get back into the contest.
Jade Dunne got to the basket for Diamond Valley, scoring 17 points to go along with four assists and four steals, however it was too little, too late, with Waverley holding on for the eight-point victory.
