NW Tasmania Thunder 94 def Hobart Chargers 81
The NW Tasmania Thunder have won a thrilling game against its cross-town rival Hobart, overcoming a 14-point deficit in the second half.
After a close first quarter the Chargers took control of the contest, leading by as many as 11 points before half-time.
Hobart was buoyed by the debut of Tad Dufelmeier, who came in off the bench and made an immediate impact.
Dufelmeier led the Chargers in scoring and assists (22 points, six assists), helping Hobart take a 55-46 lead into the main break.
While a lot of eyes were on Dufelmeier, the guard was matched by Thunder sixth-man Taran Armstrong, who helped lead NW Tasmania back into the game.
The young guard shook off a somewhat slow start to the game, staying aggressive and making his way to the free-throw line with regularity.
Armstrong led all scorers in the contest with 23 points, nine of which came at the charity stripe.
Led by Armstrong, as well as some hot outside shooting from Joseph Chilcott (18 points) and Sejr Deans (16 points), and strong interior play from Paul Campbell, the Thunder stormed past Hobart in the second half.
The Chargers led 64-50 only minutes into the third quarter.
From that point on, NW Tasmania outscored Hobart 44-17 to secure the home win and rise to the top spot on the NBL1 South Men’s ladder.
