The Knox Raiders have made two big NBL1 South signings ahead of the season commencing on Saturday night.

Joining the men's roster will be South East Melbourne Phoenix star Yanni Wetzell.

Wetzell, a first-year player in the NBL, has been a force inside.

With averages of 11 points and six rebounds per game and 54 percent from the field in the NBL, Wetzell is sure to be a star of NBL1.

Raiders head coach Dom Linossier talks highly of Wetzell''s play and his physical gifts.

"Yanni has proven to be an elite level player at a pro-level already," Linossier said.

"He’s put the league on notice this year, and will be a force to be reckoned with in NBL1."

"His athleticism is NBA level, as is his desire to be the very best he can be - we are so very excited he’s invested in Knox as a step in his journey, and Raiders fans can look forward to what he produces in gold."

On the women's side of things, Chelsea Burns has come on board.

Burns is a versatile player who is a dominant defender on the perimeter.

She most recently played with the Sunbury Jets, where they won three championships in a row.

Burns has also won SEABL championships with both Frankston and Dandenong.

Head coach Kennedy Kereama is thrilled with the basketball knowledge Burns will bring to the group.

“Chelsea is a very experienced campaigner who has played basketball at all levels," Kereama said.

"She brings a great level of basketball IQ and defensive presence with a mix of versatility at both ends of the court."

"Certainly her leadership and experience will play an important role for us.”
