Reyne Smith signs with the Maitland Mustangs for the 2026 NBL1 East season

Cairns Taipans sharpshooter Reyne Smith has been announced as the Maitland Mustangs latest signing for the 2026 NBL1 East season.

Joining Will Cranston-Lown, Mason Bragg, and Myles Cherry in a star-studded lineup, the acquistion of Smith is by far one of the biggest of the NBL1 offseason so far.

This will mark Smith's first appearance in NBL1 since his appearances for the North West Tasmania Thunder in the 2019 NBL1 season.

Following that season he did go on to play for the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence and face many clubs that appear in NBL1 East today, though they were not officially apart of the league at that stage. 

Averaging 9.6 points per game for the Taipans in an injury-hampered NBL season, Smith will certainly look to score in volume when he takes to the court for the Mustangs in 2026.
