The Ringwood Hawks have added a key piece to their roster with the announcement that Adelaide Lightning forward Marena Whittle has signed with the club for the 2021 NBL1 South season.
Whittle had barely finished her WNBL commitments and was catching up with all her Netflix shows when she committed to becoming a key part of the Hawks, as they aim for a finals spot.
“It is the Hawks community and style of play that attracted me to Ringwood,” Whittle said.
“And I haven’t missed out on finals yet and I don’t plan on to.”
Having just played in the 2020 WNBL season with the Lightning, Whittle understands the challenges the Hawks will likely face throughout the 2021 NBL1 South season with COVID still changing the way we live our lives.
“Hopefully having fans back in the stadiums and for some girls playing after a year off are some of the challenges the team will face,” Whittle said.
“But we will be ready to go, it will be fun.”
Ringwood coach Tim Mottin is excited about the enthusiasm and fun-loving nature that Whittle will bring, contributing to the team culture for the upcoming season.
“Marena is great fun, she loves a chat on and off the court and her ability to be a dominant force in a variety of positions is great for us,” Mottin said,
“She will be a massive part of our team and any success we have this year.”
Whittle joins returning team captain Danni Bone as the announced signings for the upcoming season with more announcements expected to be made shortly.
