DeSantis excited for NBL1 pathway with Pioneers

The Mount Gambier Pioneers have announced the signing of guard Nik DeSantis for the club's debut NBL1 South season.

The Mount Gambier Pioneers have announced the signing of guard Nik DeSantis for the club's debut NBL1 South season.

DeSantis signed with the club for the 2020 season, although following its cancellation, DeSantis returned to Adelaide and was able to play out a reduced fixture with the West Adelaide Bearcats.

Coach Richard Hill is excited to be able to welcome DeSantis to Mount Gambier, but also have him prepare for the 2021 season after being on his radar to join the Pioneers for some time.

"Nik has been fortunate to be able to remain on court playing in Adelaide’s limited fixture competition throughout 2020," Hill said.

"His improvement over the years has been impressive and I am looking forward to working with him on court in 2021."

DeSantis played with the Sturt Sabres in 2019 where he played against the Pioneers.

DeSantis is another talented young Adelaide player that has made Mount Gambier his destination of choice to aspire at playing at higher levels playing within the NBL1 South competition in 2021.

"It is pleasing that Mount Gambier is still recognized as a pathway for young South Australian players who are aspirational about playing at the next level," President Tom Kosch said.

"To be able to provide this opportunity and pathway for local and South Australian men’s and women’s players into the future."

The return of basketball to the Ice House is highly anticipated for the Pioneers Basketball Club and the wider Mount Gambier community.

The NBL1 South season is scheduled to start April 17th against the Bendigo Braves at the Ice House.
